The first row of panels beside Evelyn Cross’s name began to glow.

Gold light sharpened into three elegant cards, each bordered in pale amber. The titles appeared first. Then the descriptions unfolded beneath them in measured lines.

Verena stepped aside just enough to let the room absorb them.

EVELYN CROSS

Partner in Crime (Path Hidden)

Evelyn's telepathy forms a permanent partial link to the Master, allowing communication at nearly any range without intrusive mind reading; this link cannot be interrupted or severed.

(Hidden Effect: Lying to the Master triggers sudden intense nausea.)

Ice Queen (Path Hidden)

Evelyn's powerful mind reinforces her body. She gains supernatural resilience that makes her much harder to harm.

(Hidden Effect: This resilience increases her sensitivity to the Master's touch.)

Figure Skater (Path Hidden)

Evelyn’s poise in combat is legendary, now her body gains extraordinary grace, speed, and agility. This change requires some adjustments to movement habits.

(Hidden Effect: Her legs become strikingly perfected limbs free from blemish, but she can no longer wear clothes that conceal them or any shoes without heels.)

Claire was the first to speak. “The third one is absurdly stylish.”

Katherine murmured, “The first one sounds more dangerous.”

Evelyn read all three without changing expression.

Verena turned to her. “Contestant One. Which would you choose, and which would you most avoid?”

Evelyn folded her arms. “I would choose Ice Queen,” she said. “The physical resilience is the most obviously useful.”

No hesitation. “I would most avoid Partner in Crime.”

Verena tilted her head. “Because?”

“Because I distrust anything that permanently bonds my mind.” That landed well enough on its own.

Verena turned to Van. “Master Van, your preference.”

Van stared at her. “No.”

Verena’s tone did not move. “No?”

“I’m not doing this.”

“Yes,” she said, “you are.”

He clenched his jaw. “Ask the audience.”

“I am asking the Master.”

The pressure started again — subtle, ugly, tightening behind his ribs and throat. When he spoke, the truth came without room for evasion. “If I have to answer,” he said, “then Ice Queen.”

Evelyn’s eyes flicked to him.

“It’s direct,” he said tightly. “Useful. And it doesn’t sound like it reaches into how she thinks.”

Verena inclined her head. “Noted.”

The second row ignited.

CLAIRE MERCER

Crowning Glory (Path Hidden)

Claire’s telekinesis is powerful, but not subtle. This allows her telekinetic senses to gain precision and extended reach, enabling telekinetic area mapping and movement detection.

(Hidden: Her hair floats with subtle animation, coiling toward those she respects or desires, its hypersensitive strands becoming an erogenous zone.)

Gold Star (Path Hidden)

Claire is accustomed to standing out in her class. The system rewards Claire for exceptionalism; as long as she demonstrates strong commitment to excellence, a thousand small details fall into place without effort.

(Hidden: Grooming, make-up, and clothing require no upkeep, small mishaps will be avoided, etc. Effect scales with VP totals with top 51% VP being the minimum. At lower scores, the opposite will occur.)

Best in Class (Hidden Path)

Claire has strong physical fitness habits. This gift rewards her hard work. Her workouts are more productive and require less recovery time.

(Hidden: When working out, hesitations dissolve, guiding her to skimpier, less modest gym clothes. Over time, this effect increases and spreads to any girl that works out with her.)

Claire read them all twice. Then: “Crowning Glory.”

Fiona smirked faintly. “Of course.”

Claire ignored her. “It’s the clearest increase in combat power.”

“And which would you avoid?” Verena asked.

Claire looked at Gold Star with immediate suspicion. “That one.”

“Because?”

“Because it sounds like being rewarded for functioning well, but I don’t like how vague it is.” That drew a few glances.

Verena turned to Van.

He already knew what he thought. “Crowning Glory,” he said.

Claire looked at him sharply. “Why?”

Again, the system pulled the explanation out of him. “Because Gold Star sounds like it trains you to live by rank and approval, and Best in Class sounds like an infomercial.” He nodded toward the first card. “That one still helps you in a fight without turning everything into pressure.”

Claire went still.

Verena smiled faintly. “Noted.”

The third row glowed.

ELIZA QUINN

Phantom Grace (Path Hidden)

Lizzy’s phasing achieves greater precision and flexibility, allowing her to phase solid objects more easily.

(Hidden: When she is embarrassed or anxious, her control slips and she has trouble keeping some of her clothes from phasing through her body.)

Solid Ground (Path Hidden)

Lizzy's power is very draining, now her phasing can stabilize for better endurance over time.

(Hidden: Lizzy’s body gains increased endurance during stress positions; kneeling, bending, etc. can be done as easily as standing or sitting.)

Wing Woman (Path Hidden)

Lizzy’s phasing speeds up for smoother, faster transitions, enabling her to phase other people with greater ease.

(Hidden: She gains an impulsive need to clean, sort, and attend to household duties within the harem.)

Lizzy went pink just from hearing her own options read aloud in front of everyone. Verena asked the question.

Lizzy swallowed. “Solid Ground.”

“Why?”

She looked at the card instead of anyone else. “Because I’m tired of feeling like I’m the one who slips.” A few faces softened at that.

“And avoid?”

“Wing Woman,” she said quickly. “I don’t think the other girls need me to save them.”

Verena turned to Van.

“Solid Ground,” he said.

Lizzy looked up too quickly.

“She doesn’t need more finesse first,” he said. “She needs something that sounds steadier.”

Lizzy looked away again, burning.

The fourth row ignited.

NAOMI HALE

Power Valve (Path Hidden)

Naomi has been too long denied the free use of her power. Now she begins down the path to set this right. She gains a degree of control but will take some time to master it fully.

(Hidden: Her draining touch is easier to control the more skin she has exposed. Over time, she can fully master it no matter how she is dressed.)

Bandit Honor (Path Hidden)

Instead of the usual draining effect, she can choose to copy a weak version of someone's power through a short controlled touch.

(Hidden: This effect only happens when she kisses someone.)

Banked Reserves (Path Hidden)

Naomi can touch Van for short periods without draining his vitality in a dangerous way. These short bursts fill her with stored vitality she can expend later on to fuel her body's strength, speed, or toughness.

(Hidden: Fullness creates an emotional craving, but emptiness aches with a deep, intimate hunger.)

Naomi read them with fixed concentration.

Then: “Power Valve.” No surprise there. “It’s the closest thing to actual relief,” she said.

“And avoid?” Verena asked.

Naomi’s eyes stayed on the second card. “Bandit Honor.”

“Because?”

Naomi laughed once, softly and without humor. “Because anything in this place that starts with ‘brief touch’ sounds like it was written by someone who has never had to think about what a touch costs.”

That shut the room up nicely.

Verena turned to Van.

“Power Valve,” he said at once.

Naomi looked at him with immediate suspicion.

“If there’s any option here that gives you more control over your own body,” he said, “that seems like the one that should come first.”

Naomi did not thank him. But she stopped looking like she expected betrayal in that exact second.

The fifth row lit.

KATHERINE WREN

Second Skin (Path Hidden)

Katherine has been held back by her morphing power’s limitations. Now her shapeshifting extends to clothing, allowing her to transform them along with her body in one seamless effort.

(Hidden: Transformed clothing can never include underwear of any kind and will destroy any manufactured garment she wears.)

Dossiers (Path Hidden)

Katherine is a skilled infiltrator and spy, let’s see how she fares against the Harem Hotel. Once for each challenge cycle, a dossier will be hidden somewhere within the hotel property. If Katherine can locate and retrieve it, she will be granted clues to aid in preparation for the challenge.

(Hidden: These dossiers also contain hints for the Master to improve his relationship with whichever girl is in last place currently. Katherine will be compelled to inform him. Failure to secure the dossier results in temporary punishment transformations.)

Chameleon Dance (Path Hidden)

Katherine has hidden in plain sight all her life, with this it will be a bit more literal. She gains the ability to manipulate her skin like a chameleon while remaining still to blend into surroundings.

(Hidden: This effect does not work on clothes, and leads to a fascination with observing others closely, including their private moments.)

Katherine actually looked impressed.

“Well,” she said, “that’s flattering in a criminal sort of way.”

Verena waited.

Katherine folded one arm under the other. “I would choose Dossiers.”

“Why?”

“Because if I’m going to be tampered with, I prefer to avoid anything that offers free upgrades. They seem untrustworthy.”

Cassie snorted.

“And avoid?”

Katherine looked at Chameleon Dance and smiled without warmth.

“That one. I am many things, but I am not a lizard.”

Verena turned to Van. He considered her options carefully. “Dossier I guess. I wanted to say Second Skin at first, but I don’t know enough about their powers to second guess,” he said.

Katherine’s brows rose.

“It sounds like it lets her use what she’s already good at without just driving her further into herself.”

Katherine studied him for a beat. “Interesting.”

The sixth row glowed.

MARA ELLISON

Dream Girl (Path Hidden)

Mara relies on her powers to keep her and her friends safe in battle. This will sharpen her illusions for more convincing deceptions, improving cover and distractions in battle.

(Hidden: When sleepy or daydreaming, translucent visions of her most romantic or sexual fantasies play out nearby.)

World Traveler (Path Hidden)

Mara works with people all over the world. We will help her by granting a natural talent to learn and decode languages.

(Hidden: She develops a compulsion to greet harem members with a kiss. Triggers only once per day per person.)

White Witch (Path Hidden)

Mara’s natural instincts to help and care for those close to her become finely honed. She gains an inherent understanding of what any given harem member needs to feel more comfortable when stressed.

(Hidden: Occasionally when providing any sort of care to a harem member, she offers advice on how best to seduce other harem members. This advice is always sound, but not always appropriate.)

Mara’s expression tightened on the third card.

Verena asked, “Contestant Six?”

“White Witch,” Mara said quietly.

“Because?”

“I feel like we are going to need it the most. With…everything, you know.” Katherine said nothing, but her expression suggested she might contest the first half of that sentence later.

“And avoid?”

Mara looked at World Traveler again. “That one.”

“Why?”

Mara took a breath. “Because I don’t need that right now. It would be wonderful to speak extra languages, but we need to survive this thing first.”

Verena turned to Van. “Dream Girl,” he said. Mara looked at him.

“If they are going into battle against the Architect, they are going to need a lot of power,” he said. “And it doesn’t seem to be intrusive.”

Mara looked away first.

The seventh row glowed.

FIONA KAVANAGH

Siren’s Song (Path Hidden)

Fiona is no longer restricted to whispering her commands to enemies. Her command voice can now target a single individual at normal volume.

(Hidden: Her everyday speaking voice gradually builds arousal in listeners over repeated exposure.)

Assessment (Path Hidden)

Fiona is a powerhouse on the field, but isn’t used to teamwork. This ability will help her grow into that role. Tactical instincts allow her to instantly assess skills, strengths, and power levels with only a glance.

(Hidden: Fiona finds people with more skill, ability, power, or strength to be more desirable as mates.)

Winner Takes All (Path Hidden)

Fiona's got a lot of experience as a fighter, but lacks technical skill. Now her martial skills enhance, improving her fighting skills to a new level.

(Hidden: Whenever Fiona engages a harem member in a one on one challenge of skill or ability, she believes the winner has the right to physically discipline the other for losing.)

Fiona read all three and laughed once.

“Wow.”

Verena waited.

“Assessment,” Fiona said. “If I’m trapped in a rigged system, I’d like a better read on the board.”

“And avoid?” Verema watched carefully for her response.

“Winner Takes All,” Fiona’s sneer was gold medal quality.

“Because?”

“I don’t need someone downloading kung-fu into my brain.” That sounded exactly like Fiona.

Verena turned to Van. He already knew this would go badly.

“Winner Takes All,” he said.

Fiona rounded on him. “Excuse me?” The truth came anyway.

“Maybe I'm wrong,” he said. “but she's making me answer. I just thought that being more well rounded in a fight would be for the best. What if one of the Alters is immune to sound or something?”

Fiona looked ready to kill him. Which, Van thought grimly, probably was unavoidable.

“Who asked you anyway?” she muttered darkly, knowing the answer already.

The final row glowed.

CASSIE LIN

Cover Me (Path Hidden)

Cassie has always avoided team based missions. But we need her on the fast track to teamwork. This grants increased tactical awareness of team members and better timing for power use in group actions.

(Hidden: She becomes more aware of her harem mates' figures and features, occasionally leading her to stare.)

Hothead (Path Hidden)

Cassie's plasma power flares as she moves, enabling bursts of empowered motion and leaps that cover dozens of meters using plasma for propulsion.

(Hidden: Her emotions, including attraction, jealousy, embarrassment, and protectiveness, become harder to suppress.)

Fashion Disaster (Path Hidden)

Cassie hates super-suits. We understand and want to help her out. Anything she wears becomes tough enough to withstand small explosions.

(Hidden: The strengthening effect causes clothing to shrink and shorten resulting in much sexier, more revealing versions of whatever she wears.)

Cassie made a face at all three. Then: “Cover Me.”

“Why?” Verena asked.

“It’s the least stupid.”

Claire choked on a laugh.

“And avoid?”

Cassie looked at Fashion Disaster with open offense. “That one.”

“Because you hate people messing with your clothes,” Katherine supplied.

Cassie pointed at her. “Exactly.”

Verena turned to Van.

“Cover Me,” he said. Cassie looked at him sharply, suspicious even in agreement. “It sounds like it makes her better at what she already does when she’s at her best,” he said. “Protecting people who need it.” Cassie did not thank him either. But she stopped glaring for half a second.

Verena stepped back toward the display.

The eight rows now glowed together, each contestant’s three visible futures hanging before the room.

“The audience has now been given all relevant contestant preferences and Master responses,” she said. “They may take these into account as they vote.”

Beneath each set of cards, a new line appeared in gold.

POLL STATUS: OPEN

The room went very still.

Claire looked tense and sick at once. Lizzy had gone pale again. Naomi’s expression had closed down into hard caution. Mara looked wounded in that soft inward way people sometimes did when nothing physical had touched them and they still felt handled. Katherine looked thoughtful, which was dangerous in its own right. Fiona looked murderous. Cassie looked like she was mentally measuring whether she could blow up the floating screens. Evelyn alone looked like she had already crossed the line from outrage into analysis.

Verena smiled with quiet satisfaction.

“Your wishes have been heard,” she said. “Whether they are honored is, as ever, another matter.”

Van looked at the glowing rows and understood, with fresh clarity, that whatever happened next would not just change the girls. He had already been made part of it. Verena clasped her hands before her.

“When the polls close,” she said, “we will continue.”

And the assembly hall settled into a silence shaped not by peace, but by waiting.
