Transfiguration

In front of the big mirror you half expect Tritera is going to show you the basics of some mirror magic. She has other plans however.

Tritera : "I think I know a way to help you make friends with the other girls. Today we're going to see if you can get a little control over your transfiguration magic."

She hands you a gnarled staff to hold in one hand.

Tritera : "So the basic form of transfiguration any caster can learn is some limited self transformation that needs continued concentration and magical energy to maintain."

With wave of her hand her eyes changed color to a light green.

Tritera : "The advantage of the specialization is that your changes can be set and left until dispeled or taken down. You'll also have the ability to make significantly larger changes, even animal transfiguration is possible. Jasmine used to get a lot of use out of turning into a bird and flying to places where no mirror is available."

You get a good look at yourself in the mirror.

Tritera : "ok, let's start out easy, grip the staff and focus on your eyes, try to change their color."

You stare at your dark brown eyes and focus, gripping the staff. Your left eye turns the same green as Tritera's but your right eye remain obstinately brown.

Tritera : "that's great! Just that would take most casters many sessions to make happen. But I think you can do better"

Reassured by her positivity you focus again and the other eye changes to green instantly, along with your hair, and most of your robes. You did not mean to do that.

Tritera snorts a little laugh.

Tritera: "A little too much power this time, but that's good, you're definitely a transfiguration sorceress. Focus just on your hair and see if you can change it back, or better yet, I bet you'd be really cute as a blonde"

You gripped the staff again, this time a little more softly. You focus on your now green hair and imagine it a flowing sun kissed blonde, to your delight it worked quickly and efficiently.

Tritera : "Great job honey! Now, this is a little harder, touch me with the staff and see if you can change my hair. This is something even I can't do without the aid of that enchanted cream."

You poke her on the leg with the staff and focus hard on her hair.

You focus hard, for a while nothing changes, her hair ripples a little bit but remains that deep purple. You're gripping the staff very hard and your jaw is locked in effort.

Tritera : "Relax Jessica, the more you strain yourself the harder it will be. The staff is your medium, not your muscles. Try to feel your energy flowing through it."

You take a deep breath and relax your grip. You focus on how the soft wood feels in your hands. You've never noticed before, and maybe it's all in your head but you think you can feel a gentle hum through the gnarled branch. You think of Tritera's hair turning blonde and channel that feeling through your arms into the living wood of the staff. Finally starting at the roots and expanding outwards Tritera's hair turns a wonderful blonde! She see this happen in her reflection and a look of glee comes over her face.

Tritera : "You did it! that was awesome. You're doing so good!"

The two of you make a dozen or so changes to each of your hair, face and outfits until you're confident you can do this on demand. Tritera sees you're starting to feel pretty exhausted and suggests the two of you head to get lunch at the Dormitory kitchen so she can show you around.
