Training

"I went to find Oliver, but his mom said he was in the forest with you so I went looking and ended up finding Mia," I said.

"You were with Mia..." Amelia's voice was small and weak, scared maybe.

"Yeah, she looked sad so I asked her what was wrong and found out that Jax kicked her out of his group. After we talked about that she took me into the forest and showed me some things that Jax has been teaching her."

Amelia gasped when I told her about Mia leaving Jax's group and then looked upset when I told her I spent the rest of the day training with Mia.

"Why would Jax kick her out of the group? I can talk to him and maybe help her."

I shook my head.

"She quit as much as he kicked her out. She didn't want to go to the trials with the everyone else, she wanted to wait for next time."

I sat down in front of my house and Amelia stood in front of me.

"She only wants to stay so she can be alone with you!" She growled and threw her arms out.

I nodded.

"Yeah, that's what she said. She would rather stay here and train with me and be behind but be able to adventure with me later."

Amelia sat next to me and looked down at her hands. She looked like she wanted to cry but had already dried up all her tears.

"So it will be you and Mia alone for six months," she whispered.

I looked at her. Had it not occurred to her that she could stay too? I thought about her and Kase getting close and wondered if he was the reason she didn't entertain the thought of staying. I sighed. No, I knew that it was because becoming an adventurer was her biggest dream and if she wanted to reach her goals she couldn't wait.

The thought made me appreciate Mia more for being willing to put her own dreams on hold.

"Of course we won't be alone, I'm going to ask my mom if she can join us in our training, maybe Alice too."

Amelia stiffened at the mention of Alice and took a deep breath and then looked at me.

"Amelia? What's wrong?" I asked.

"..."

I sighed, she didn't answer. She was hiding something, it was more obvious by the day, and the longer she's hiding it the more I doubt her trust in me. I stand and walk to my door.

"Darx, don't forget about the mine tomorrow," she said.

I nodded. I have wanted to explore the mine for so long, but I don't really want to go with Kase.

"Goodnight, Amelia. I'll talk to you tomorrow."
