Toward her

Whatever is moving through the dirt is headed in the Angel's direction, and you see something green in the displaced potting soil in its wake. Before she even bothers to look, it snakes its way around her ankle, catching her while she's shaking the other one clean.

You look on in a mix of confusion and shock as it pulls her leg out from under her, evoking a cry of surprise as she stumbles backward, into the grasp of another green tendril--both feet now ensnared. The seizing of her legs sends her flailing to the floor, gasping as her butt lands amid an emerging mass of vines.

Her wrists are rapidly entangled, too, leaving her bound and squirming. As you see the mass grow nearer, you act fast and stammer a protest as you scramble up the stool and toward the piñata, your back to the plastic pumpkin. While more vines slither their way out through the floorboards, the Angel is wrapped tight, supine and helpless in their midst. You watch, similarly powerless to stop them, gripping your costume's skirt to watch your own feet for any encroaching vines.

"Fuck! How are these things so... strong?!" the Angel says. "It's just a plant... right?" She curses and grunts in her efforts to free her limbs, evidently in vain. "What was in that soil?!"

The boards below creak and snap, and a larger, bulbous vine breaks through, its oversized bud of a head rearing with slime dripping from the tip. Your eyes widen, unable to look away from the writhing throng as the big one looms toward the Angel with slow, sinuous movements. She meets your look of uncertainty with one of desperation, yet doesn't seem to blame you for keeping your distance.

Her struggle has slowed, and her ample chest heaves as she catches her breath. You see vines gripping her arms, legs, and waist to the floor as the big bulb hovers to her, closing in on her...
