Chapter 96

To the hospital

Everything happened so fast as everyone was rushed to Huerta Memorial Hospital. They were all raced to critical care. Miranda, Ashley, and Liara ended up in their private rooms while the others were quickly attended to by numerous doctors. Meanwhile, Shepard paced back and forth replaying every moment with the fake Liara in her head.

Shepard was finally allowed to see Liara as she entered her room. Liara was hooked up to all sorts of wires and even had an oxygen tubes up her nose and IV tube in her body. “Liara…” Shepard said closing her eyes for a moment as she slowly approached. “I’m so sorry…”

Liara looked at Shepard and nodded. “I’ll… be okay,” she said, breathing in the oxygen. “I’m okay.”

She reached her hand out and Shepard took it. “This is my fault. I should have known. I should have…”

“Not your fault,” Liara said. “B-but I saw everything. Brooks **** me… to watch… I couldn’t help you. I couldn’t save you.”

“I’m not the one who needed saving, Liara,” Shepard said.

“But you did…” Liara said.

Shepard sighed, as she sat down next to Liara. Tears streamed down Shepard’s face as she wrapped her arms gently around Liara. “I almost lost you. And I didn’t even know. The pain you must have endured…”

Liara slowly lifted her head and kissed Shepard. “What matters is we’re okay. We’re both okay…”

Shepard nodded as she kissed Liara back. “I’m sorry.”

The doctor came back and asked Shepard to leave the room again.

“Go enjoy yourself. Let loose. I’ll be fine,” Liara said. “When I’m free to go we’ll talk.”

Shepard nodded. “I’ll be back as soon as I can. Please, doctor. Do whatever is necessary. I’ll pay for whatever supplies and expenses are needed.”

With that Shepard left and headed toward the elevator.
