Chapter 13
by MapleholicsAnonymous
Absolutely riveting, what next?
To the guest room!
As soon as you make it back up from the cellars you are met face to face with a servant who looks at you and Dea curiously before a knowing look settles on his face.
"Like father like son-ow!"
You don't let him finish, giving him a light tap on the back of the head that contains a lot more strength than you expected, you're going to have to get used to this increased strength stuff.
You apologize before quickly making up a backstory to your staff explaining that Dea is the daughter of a family friend and will be staying at the castle for about a year. That doesn't explain why the two of you just emerged from the cellar but fearing another slap he doesn't seem to question it as he quickly springs into action rounding up some other and organizing a room for her. A little while later, as the door to the room opens up, you see the range of emotion on Dea go throw multiple stages, from excitement and anticipation to disappointment and...your guess is disgust? either way, she doesn't seem pleased.
"What's with this place?! I've seen pigsties in better states!" she yells out.
You shrug "That has to be an exaggeration, I know it's not as comfortable as it could be, but it isn't that bad, plus it's a work in progress, we just have a couple of situations we haven't dealt with yet."
"Oh, really, and what are these 'situations' that could explain such a decrepit room let alone castle?"
You explain to her the predicament you're in with your father and the state he left the dukedom in, by the end of your explanation she rests her hands on her hips, before laughing haughtily.
"Well, I can't blame him, what else is someone to do with their power other than satisfy their desires?"
You can't help but facepalm, she and Leom are not giving you a good first impression of deities.
"Anyways what type of guest rooms does not have a tv set? I want to watch Pantheon's Next Top Model, I swear to me that Altriea's getting eliminated this week. (prissy bitch)"
You stay silent, your patience is simply being tested, you just have to remain quiet and not let her get the better of you.
"Am I to assume that that's a no?"
You turn back around, she got the better of you. "No we don't have a 'tv set' (you don't even know what that is) matter of fact we don't have shit, because the man you 'can't blame' did nothing but think for himself, it's honestly a miracle a coup hasn't happened yet and he's left me with a crumbling castle, massive debt, an army, half of which have deserted and the other half of which are cannon fodder for the king's front lines as well as a rampant cult running wild in our territory terrorizing the folks, which we can't deal with by the way, because we have no army."
You breathe heavily as you sit down on the bed and try and calm yourself down. As soon as your head becomes a bit clearer, your stomach drops. You just got pissy with a freakin' goddess. You've seen what she's capable of, she could very easily control your actions to make you do something or say something career-ending and claim it as punishment for your insolence.
The room is silent for a while before you can hear someone shuffle their way towards you, you turn to look and spot Dea trying her hardest not to make eye contact with you as she sits beside you, clearing her throat. "Well since I'm going to be here for a year, I doubt I could live peacefully in such conditions, so I have decided with my holy goodwill to tell you that uh, I'm here if you need help to deal with any of these problems." she looks as if she's trying really hard to get the next part out for a few seconds, "And uh, I didn't mean to anger you, ahem what I said may have been... a little insensitive by human standards."
You look up at her surprised, well would you look at that, maybe she can be nice after all.
"I-I guess I should apologize as well, yelling at you probably wasn't the brightest idea."
She flicks your forehead, "Damn straight, now if you don't mind, mongrel, I will ask you to leave, I want to get changed."
Never mind, there it is.
You don't have to be told twice however as you stand up and leave, closing the door behind you.
