Chapter 3 by Dissonant Soundtrack Dissonant Soundtrack

Where does she go?

To the boat, obviously

The ocean waves rocked the small boat to and fro, in a rough rhythm. Camila was no sailor and being shackled in the hold didn't make it any easier for her stomach to tolerate. Camila hung her head, defeated. She had sold our her friend, Gabriela, and she barely had a mark on her to justify it.

Tears had dried on her face, been replaced with fresh ones, and then dried again. She had no more left. For now.

Camila's head snapped up as she heard boots. They clomped and echoed down the steel hallways, approaching her. The door to her small cell opened, and two of the sailors entered. They didn't talk to her and she felt no need to talk to them. They frog-marched her up and out of the hold and into the sunlight.

Camila didn't know what she was expecting but it wasn't what she saw. They told her they were sending her to a re-education camp. She figured that meant a remote island where she'd be busting big rocks into small rocks but this looked like a paradise. She could see pristine sandy beaches, lush trees, even what looked like a large resort hotel.

A gentleman joined her on the deck and looked out at it.

"A bit of a shock, isn't it?" he said, smiling without a hint of friendliness.

Camila refused to answer him. He worked for the oppressors and so she had nothing for him except insults.

"You can keep silent for now, it does not bother me," he said. "A silent woman is one who knows her place, which is really the ultimate goal of your stay here."

She wanted to throw him overboard, but her hands were still shackled to a belt around her waist. She wouldn't have done it anyway. If she was prepared to throw her life away to make a point, she would have done it back on the mainland.

The boat slid into a fairly well-hidden lagoon. The tree cover here is especially thick, so unless you were right on top of it you would barely even know it was there.

A dockworker lashed the boat to the dock and extends the ramp to the island. Camila gets a sharp jab in the back to get walking, and they lead her down the dock into a small office.

What happened next?
