To the Viridian Forest

You go back through Viridian City and go through Route 2 to get the Viridian Forest.

On Route 2, you encounter an Oddish. You grab out your Pokeball and throw it at the Oddish. The ball tilts a couple times before giving the affirmative clunk of your capture.

With no other Pokemon worth catching, you step into the maze of trees that is the Viridian Forest.

The Viridian Forest itself is a haven for bug type Pokemon and infamously easy for rookie trainers to catch some experience, due to the abundance of a type of Pokemon trainer called "Bug Catchers" that like to hang round due to the abundance of bug type Pokemon. They're mostly considered a joke as their refusal to use any other type of Pokemon makes them easy to beat.

The first thing you do when you get inside is catch a Bellsprout.
