To make plans, to get

The Museum would have very few employees for quite a while. He'd be the only security guard today, with Sam running the gift shop. Perhaps the owners would be in later, after they got their old bones up. Mr. Czarneki usually liked to "entertain" guests with his tales of adventure, while Mrs. Czarneki would do the paperwork. He could give them the silver ring when they came in.

With that completing the list of people he would see today, Curtis realized the world was his to play around with. He was pretty sure he knew how his new powers worked, which meant it was time to really get down to business. See, the moment his guilt went away, the moment he realized he didn't have to hold back, old resentments came in. "Maxy is coming in to see me early this morning, am I wrong?" he asked the air, then waited. Despite everything, he was nervous. Nervous enough to feel like his ex wife would show up immediately. He paces the Museum and waits, deciding how he wants to put his plan into action.

Maxy, or Maxine as she hated to be called, was a geek for literature. That's what had attracted them to each other in the first place. They loved to get lost in books together, to enter the same world and live there for a while. Curtis loved late night discussions and light hearted debates about characters and stories. Romance books, too, had been a big part of their relationship, and especially their sex life. Maxy had been a romantic at heart, though a bit of a prude in practice. She loved the idea of being caught out in the rain and having to huddle naked somewhere inconvenient for warmth, but also checked the weather before any outing. She loved reading about love and romance, but could never be the kind of person that would experience it. None of the bad that lead to the good. And that had been okay for a long while, but eventually it wore on the relationship. She wanted what Curtis couldn't give her, and he wanted to please her but couldn't. There was nothing dramatic about the end... neither cheated on the other or anything like that. They just started fighting more and more to the point that they actively hated to be in each others' presence. And they kept fighting all the way to court, which didn't end well for either of them. She got the kids, but Curtis could never find that to be a problem. He'd been quite a mess at the end, with his store going under. He still saw them, on occasion, and always missed them.

In the years since, Curtis has checked up on Maxy a few times, both in person and through some googling. She was still a professor of literature, and her reviews were fantastic. She had such a passion for the subject that she could sweep anyone at all up in it. She'd aged, much like he had, her hair graying, and wrinkles deepening. She'd had a health scare or two, but nothing horrible. She dated for a while, off and on, and was casually seeing someone now. Overall she'd been living an excellent life. And that's what he really resented her for. He'd fallen apart, while she'd been an excellent mother and lived her dreams. She'd even actually gotten to that novel she always wanted to write. He hadn't read it, but heard it was excellent.

Curtis paced around, intentionally avoiding Sam so as not to spoil himself when he found her later. He asked, "are the attractive male guests we're going to have today going to steer clear of Sam? Will they find her unattractive?" to help push her along more organically. His phone buzzed in his hip holster once, too, and opening it revealed a text from Chelsea. She was sitting in her office, her lab coat parted to reveal her lacy black bra, nipples peaking through the lace, and a ****, horny look on her face. He decided not to respond, letting the read receipt do the teasing for him. Eventually, though, Maxy arrived.

She looked exactly how he pictured, a short but pretty woman, wearing glasses, jeans, and a nice blouse. She was carrying a plastic bag, full of something, looking around. She spotted him, and did a doubletake, her eyes widening. He grinned.
