Chapter 7
Where Does Sara Take You First?
To Her Favorite Area, The Library
Sara led you out of your room, her head constantly turning back to check on you, making you softly chuckle, "I promise you, Sara, as long as I take it slow I'm going to be just fine," You assured the girl. It was odd, all your life you had been trained to spot vampires, fight them, kill them. You were told they were soulless creatures, and by putting them down, you were not only granting them mercy but saving all their potential victims. Yet, Sara was twisting that picture around quicker than you ever thought possible.
Yes, she was a vampire, one of the undead, but she oddly had more life than many people you've ever met. Even with possible centuries of being on this earth, she remained full of passion and cared for people. Not to mention she somehow still held onto a rather innocent and nervous mannerism, the only thing that bothered you was this problem with her ex-boyfriend. When she had told you about this before you moved in, you just thought it was some hardhead who couldn't let his girlfriend go, with them both being vampires...that was something that made living her different.
"This injury," Sara softly spoke up, bringing you out of your thoughts, "Now that we're being open and honest with each other about who we are, tell me, what really happened?"
"I wasn't lying Sara, I was hit by a car," You replied with a small grunt, trying to keep up with the girl,
Sara slowed down, making sure you weren't pushing yourself, "John, there's no way a world renown hunter didn't look both ways when crossing the street one day and got hit,"
"The city is a very dangerous place," You joked before hanging your head and sighing, "Just a sec," You grunted only to hear Sara scamper towards you, bringing your free arm up, draping it over her shoulders, "I really don't-"
"Hush, John, I'd rather my roommate didn't hurt himself on the very first day he moved in," Sara quickly dismissed you, easily holding up your weight without so much as a grunt. "Now Moonlight may not be very populated, but I've been to the city a few times, and if I can navigate the area, I'm sure you could do better living there. So, please, tell me what happened,"
You raised a brow, surprised to hear that Sara had made her way to the city at some point in her life, but then again, hundreds of years would give her more than a chance. "I was on a hunt, we'd been tracking a vampire that had shown up, it wasn't causing much chaos, but something was following it. We intended on catching it, drawing out the dangerous one, then taking care of both,"
Sara immediately frowned, "So you'd kill the one who had done nothing wrong? They deserved **** simply for being what they were?"
You awkwardly cleared your throat, "I...didn't have the power to make those calls," You let a silence linger for a moment before continuing, "During the chance after the first one, I missed a jump to a fire escape, so while the vampire went to the rooftops, I tried to get across the street and climb up the next fire escape to keep up. Then, yeah, a car came out and struck me down. I almost didn't make it, would have died for sure if my girlfriend and cousin weren't nearby."
"You have a girlfriend?" Sara asked with a set of wide eyes, "A-after doing what we just did, you now tell me you're in a committed relationship?!"
"Oh, shit, no Sara, I'm not!" You exclaimed, "Mia broke up with me a few weeks after I found out my leg was busted. I...I guess if I couldn't be a hunter she didn't see a use for me,"
Sara hung her head, "I-I, I'm very sorry John, that must have been very difficult to deal with on top of everything else,"
"Tell me about it," You scoffed back, "I lost my life in one night, and now here I am, a broken cripple living with a vampire...er, no offense intended,"
"I'll let that one slide," Sara mumbled, "Hopefully you'll look at me as something more than that one day," With that said, Sara turned abruptly to a set of double doors on your right and pushed one open. Your eyes grew wide as she led you into a large library, with bookshelves that stretched to the ceilings, all packed to the brim with every type of genre imaginable. "Here, have a seat," The redhead announced as she brought you to a large easy chair and slowly lowered you down,
"T-Thank you kindly," You sighed back, feeling the relief from getting off your leg, "I'm supposed to walk as much as I can, and the more I do it, the quicker my recovery will be. It just fucking hurts,"
"I'm sure it does," Sara softly agreed, "Here, let me distract you from the pain." You nodded and looked up at the girl, "So, as I'm sure you've already gathered, this is my library. Personally, my favorite location in the house. I've spent the better part of the last decade in this room, reading almost every book you see,"
"Really?" You replied with genuine surprise, "And if you're an avid reader, which genre do you find most compelling?" Sara let out a small smiled and slowly looked around at each of the shelves, taking in each option before turning to give her answer.
