To First Period!

Kyle heads down the hall to his locker to get situated for school now. He looks at his schedule and sees that he has AP Calc first. He groans. Math is already hard but having it early in the morning can’t be good for anyone’s mental.

Kyle walks into class and takes a seat in the middle. He wants to pass the class so sitting in the back is never good but he doesn’t want to get called on so he doesn’t sit in the front. Kyle starts going through his phone waiting for the bell to ring.

DONG-DONG-DONG

“Alright students, phones away, homework passed up, and textbooks out.”

As class progresses, the teacher informs the students to pair up for partner work. Kyle looks around and sees one student looking back at him questioningly. The student was a black guy with dreads tied into a ponytail. The ponytail showed his fade that he had to get not to long ago. The man looking back at Kyle started to speak,

“Hey, so since we are the closest to each other, wanna team up?”

“Yeah…” Kyle responded. “The name’s Kyle by the way” Kyle states.

“Tenns” the guy answered. Kyle looked confused for a second. The guy didn’t look foreign but his name didn’t seem naive either. Tenns seeing his confusion continued, “It’s a nickname that everyone I know calls me. My real name at this point is only for official document”

Kyle understands and the two started working on the assignment. Throughout the work they get to know more about one another through small chitchat. Turns out that Tenns is short for antenna. He was proficient in computer science/programming ever since a young age which got him his quirky nickname but he didn’t say what his real name was. And since he was really good with computer of course math was easy to him also. They both complete the assignment with time to spare so they decided to just talk about random things.

Tenns thens ask Kyle a question, “Do you believe in fate and destiny?”

“Fate and destiny? I can’t say so… I mean we make our own choices and even if we were to understand our fate it can be easily changed”

“Really? I guess you’re right. If fate told you that you will be an astronaut l, you could theoretically do everything to make that impossible…so a person’s destiny is invisible…that’s a great way to put it”

“Yeah, why you ask though? I’m guessing you do believe in it.”

“Yeah…you could say I do. But rather than my own, I see other’s fate. Well not really “see” but feel is more accurate.”

“Oh really? Then what’s my destiny?”

“I don’t know if I’m accurate since fate happens in the future. But also if I tell you then you could either make it happen or avoid it”

“That’s perfect then. If my destiny is to win $1,000,000 then tell me. If my destiny is to die by drowning then tell me”

While Kyle didn’t believe in Tenns ability it’s always fun to go along. Plus by the way things are going he might have a new friend.

“Hmmm. Funny. BUT. Even if it’s a minor or major inconvenience I shouldn’t tell you. Life is about living and learn from your environment and situations. If I told you every good thing or bad thing to happen to you, even though I can’t, it would make you learn as a person. Instead you would live off knowing what makes life the easiest for you”

“And what’s wrong with that?”

“Think about it like this. If you were a baby and you wanted to walk and I instantly made you walk, that’ll be a huge problem”

“Explain…”

“You’d theoretically never develop the skills to walk. The mental capability to understand how to stand and move each leg forward. You’d be skipping an important part of your life and never learn how you did it”

“Hmmm so if you tell me how to get $1,000,000, I’ll be rich but I wouldn’t understand how to use and make that money work”

“Exactly. Plus, humans appreciate things when they do it themselves”

“Huh…you taught me a few things but you didn’t convince me of your technique”

“I’m not worried about you believing me since I wouldn’t be able to tell you anything about fate or destiny anyways”

Kyle smirks as he just realized something, “You motherfucker” he chuckles a little, “By saying all that and telling me your not going to prove to me that your skill is real, you make it unknown if your telling the truth or not”

DONG-DONG-DONG

“Your smart Kyle. Who knows, maybe I know more about your future than you realized; maybe I’m all shit. You’ll never know” Tenns gets up and packs his things while talking. “You actually are kinda cool, I’ll see ya later.”

Kyle watches his new acquaintance leave as he starts packing his own thing. Kyle feels like the guy left an impression of him but can explain how that makes him feel exactly

“I won’t say he is weird but he certainly is interesting”

With that Kyle leaves the classroom and goes about his day. A few hours later and Kyle finally gets to go to lunch.

“Finally I’m starving”

Once Kyle receives he school lunch, it’s time for him to sit somewhere with someone
