EXCELSIOR
Tiffany was in the forefront of your mind.
You open your eyes.
All the memories of your previous dreams come back to you like smooth butter, and you're already on the move.
"Something is up with Tiffany." You stated.
"I know, right?" John popped up in front of you and walked backwards as he matched your pace, "Like, what does she even see in Zeke? The guy is such a prick."
"Not that!" You waved away, "I'm talking about the fact that we apparently have a history together that I can't even remember!"
"Oh."
"Last night's dream, she said that we were friends back in middle school. Today on the rooftops, she said something about erasing the past to start fresh." You recounted the previous day, "She and I knew each other back then, and I don't even realize it."
You felt frustrated as you tried to reach back into your past and did your best to remember every single little detail. So far though, you have absolutely no memory of ever being friends with Tiffany. For all you knew and remembered, she showed up out of nowhere one day mid-semester, and you've never talked with her until high school.
"This is crazy! How can I not remember being friends with Tiffany Brian?! She used to be my middle-school crush, you'd think I'd remember something like that!" You growled at yourself. Then you turned to John, "Wait, what about you? You've said that you have two weeks worth of my memories from back when I discovered the Labyrinth for the first time. Any memories in there that's related to Tiffany?"
He shrugs apologetically, "Sorry man. It's only knowledge about the Labyrinth up in this noggin of mine."
"Then do you think that maybe I've lost my memories of Tiffany on accident the day I split myself in three?"
"Nope, not possible mate. Memories aren't something you can just destroy on accident when you're in here. If any memories of Tiffany might be lost, it's either because of something that happened in real life, or you seriously just can't remember it." He explained.
You sighed, feeling completely lost.
"Then I guess the only way I can find out more is by asking Tiffany herself..." You decided.
"If she even wants to tell anyone, that is..." John said.
"What do you mean by that?"
"Well, think about it. If you and Tiffany did know each other back in middle school, how come she hasn't said anything to remind you back on the rooftops when you asked? She seems to be trying keep the past a secret for some reason, now that she knows you don't remember." He explained. "Getting info out of her might be easier said than done. Not to mention the fact that we still have that Inner Demon to worry about."
"Right..." You muttered.
You almost forgot about that horrifyingly painful experience yesterday. You shudder to even think about it.
"If you have some sort of plan, then by all means, proceed with it. Otherwise, I think you should start playing it safe and observe her dreams without trying to trigger her Inner Demons. If it does get triggered, you should probably leave the dream to avoid having to go through experiencing her nightmare all over again."
You sighed, before shaking your head clear and slapping yourself to psych yourself up. "I'm sure I can manage through it, somehow."
"Nice spirit. Just don't go insane, 'Kay?" John warned, before moving away to reveal Tiffany's door.
You took a deep breath and entered the door...
...
On the other side, you found yourself in the bleachers of a huge soccer stadium, filled with an audience of people cheering on a game in progress.
This was... new? It's a lot different from the Homecoming dance, that's for sure.
Wait, you actually know this soccer stadium... Yeah, of course, it's the same stadium that's just outside your school! But, it's way smaller in the real world compared to here. And you don't remember there being a huge row of seats for a massive audience gathering like this. At most, your school has enough to seat two school's worth of students, as well as having room for family members.
You looked around to find Tiffany doing a dance routine with her cheerleading squad as they cheered on the home team. While the soccer players were playing, Tiffany and her cheerleaders were wowing and hyping the crowd as they did all sorts of extravagent moves.
Tiffany seemed completely relaxed and having fun, unlike in her last dream when she was nervously anxious about the Homecoming Queen announcement.
"Alrighty then... Let's see how I can work with this..."
What's the best way to fit in with a setting like this... Hm...
You got it!
You concentrated hard on yourself and imagined you were in a mascot costume.
Immediately, you felt yourself getting stuffed inside what you can only describe as a giant Cookie-monster suit, the one from Sesame Street, who's eyes were two times larger than normal. It was also wearing a baseball shirt with a matching helmet for some reason, despite being in a soccer game.
Eh, close enough.
You got up from your seat and went up to the opposite side of where Tiffany was, being at the perfect advantage to be near enough to watch her while also blending in to pretend to be the mascot of the Away team.
As you watched Tiffany having fun as she did her routine, you tried to see if there was any signs of any Inner Demons in the crowd.
Unlike last time, where they would silently stare at Tiffany before booing her and start making obscenely loud chanting noises that could destroy ear drums, the crowd seems to be perfectly normal. They're were acting like a crowd of people should be acting. No one was booing or yelling Tiffany at all. They were having as much fun as she was having.
Hm... So I guess you can rule out stage fright as a possible factor that triggers her Inner Demon. She seems to relish the attention given to her as long as she's cheering and dancing.
But then... If it's not the crowds, then what causes her Inner Demon to trigger? You figure that she might be having some sort of identity issues or something, but you're not exactly positive on that just yet... This calls for more observations. The question to find and answer is, "Who is Tiffany Brian, and why doesn't she believe she's the real Tiffany Brian?"
Okay... Time to act natural.
Let's see, how do mascots act again?
You start jumping around and waving to the faceless crowd. Already, the effects of the Tiffany's Dreamworld start kicking in. Your movements become more natural and you start to really get into your role as a cartoon mascot.
You pulled off some amazingly impressive moves that you could only ever dream of (no pun intended) doing back in the real world, dancing around like a giant fluffy puppet madman. You did the shuffle, then some sort of obscure disco dance you've never seen before in your life, and then you flopped to the floor and did a perfect Worm before transitioning into a breakdancing leg spin.
The crowd seemed to be eating up your moves on a silver platter, cheering you on and laughing at your antics.
At some point, Tiffany seems to have noticed you, and you felt her giving you a spark of competition in her eyes.
As you watched her, she started calling over her squad, and directed their attention at you. They all gave you the same look she did, before getting into an organized position and syncing up their moves.
Facing you, they shook their hips in a seductive manner, before they all start flipping around one by one as they started singing a taunt.
"Can't beat our hometown, give up the throw down! Your cries make up no sound! Go home, Clowns!"
As someone who has never watched sports before, you're not sure if this was normally allowed in a real game. It seems a bit mean spirited... Yet, and you don't don't know why, but you felt hyped enough to accept her challenge.
Like a demon possessed, you start pulling off some moves that you remember seeing from Michael Jackson. You moonwalked around for a bit, tilting your helmet as if it was a fedora hat. Then you spun around and tilted your heels up while bending your knees as you grabbed your crotch. "Ow~!"
Damn, you wished you were this smooth back in real life. The fact that you could pull these moves off in an oversized mascot costume was even more impressive.
Actually, since you were in the mood, you always wanted to do the Lean.
You stood up straight, and then tilted your entire body forward before you were leaning to an almost impossible degree with your feet still attached to the ground.
Hehehehe, dreams are so cool.
The crowd starts cheering you on, and Tiffany gave you a smile to show how much she's enjoying your friendly little competition.
At this point, you notice how the soccer game doesn't even seem to be the main focus of the dream anymore. All the players are less serious now, playing halfheartedly as they were all distracted by you and the cheerleaders.
This went on a bit longer and got you more involved than you planned it to be.
You spent a while doing some sort of Dance-Off with Tiffany and her squad, to the point where it kind of devolved into something akin to a scene in those High School Musical movies your sister used to watch when you were a kid.
Literally everyone was dancing at this point, not just you and Tiffany. The soccer players from both teams seem to have some sort of master coordinator or something, since they were all playing the game to the beat of the rhythm of Michael Jackson's Billie Jeans. It was like watching a music video.
When someone somehow manages to score a goal, you and Tiffany, with her squad, would go up to the middle of the field and exchange some playful taunting dances. You'd shake your rump or do some kind of Gangnam style move, and she would do a coordinated dance routine while using her girls as backup dancers.
You were so into the role, you nearly forgot that this was all just in Tiffany's dream and that you weren't actually some god-tier mascot.
Remembering what you came here for, you decided that now was probably a good time for a break. You only have so much time until morning comes to wake her up, after all.
Okay, how does this work again? Was it called a half time or intermission? Wait, does this actually apply to soccer too, or is it only a football thing?
What do they call those break times inbetween games?
Eh, fuck it. It's just a dream, make up whatever.
You imagined a bell ringing, and then made a man in a referee suit show up to blow his whistle. "Half-time break!"
All the players in the match immediately finished up and went back to the bleachers to rest up and have their team discussions or whatever. The crowd calms down and relaxes, patiently waiting for when the game will resume again.
Tiffany loudly cheered and highfived her cheerleader squad, congratulating them on an amazing performance. Seeing your chance, you decide to walk up to her and start a conversation.
"Nice moves, sexy lady! You got the man inside this suit all riled up and excited!" You greeted her.
Oh, jeez, that was a bit too forward for your tastes. Was Tiffany making you act like this?
She turns to you with a smile, not at all bothered by your compliment. "You're not so bad yourself! I like the way you dance. You seem to be a natural at this."
"Hey, since it's half time, you wanna sit down somewhere and hang a bit to just talk?" You asked.
She hummed suggestively, giving you half-lidded eyes, "Trying to find an excuse to get me alone? Hmhm, I'll bite. But you should know, I'm already taken by someone on my school's soccer team."
"Then we can just hang out as friends then?" You offered.
She giggled, "Then that's fine with me! But, I would like to know who the man under that costume is first before we get to talking..."
She looked at you expectantly.
Hm... You wondered if now was the time to reveal yourself to her yet...
Maybe after you get her alone.
"Sure, but not here. Don't want to ruin the imaginations of the kids here, you know?" You quickly made up a believable excuse.
"Aw, that's cute!" She coo'ed, before nodding, "Alright then. Lead the way."
After that, you left the stadium without any fuss or trouble. No one else showed up to interrupt you or anything.
Phew, good... You half expected Zeke to show up to stop her from going. Maybe it's because she's having a rough relationship with him right now in the real world that she's fine on following you instead of dreaming about Zeke.
Alright... Let's see what you can figure out about Tiffany, shall we?
Cookie Monster in the mood for Cheerleaders, Hurr Durr.
