Chapter 3 by TheSecretlyUnlikelyDuck TheSecretlyUnlikelyDuck

She could try and sneak past them or go around.

Throw a rock to distract them

The young healer's apprentice waits, her back pressed against the stone wall. With any luck, these monsters might move on and she can continue forward. After a few enternity-long minutes she peaks out to look again, but hunched creatures are still huddled together. Her eyes widen when she see's a bit of movement behind them. Focusing her attention for a few seconds she notices the the 'dead' elf stir very slightly; he's alive!

The young woman stifles a gasp as she ducks back again; thoughts racing through her head. The soldier lays in the middle of an open street, between them is the jabbering group of dark beings. This is why she became a healer to save lives, and yet now in the critical moment her fear threatens to overwhelm her! With two deep breathes Elyn realizes it is her sacred duty to help any elf in need, so she resolves that she cannot abandon this wounded warrior to his fate. She racks her brain for how to help him, the chills of fear growing stronger the more she listens to the chattering from the street.

Even though her knowlege is purely from books and school, even Elyn could tell that the creatures crouched around the corner were goblins. reen scaly skin, short and squat, with huge protruding yellow eyes, narrow crooked noses, and oversized frog mouths. They're only about 4 feet tall, and their arms are so long that they nearly drag on the ground as the monsters walk. The ones she now faces wear patchworks of threadbare rags and carry rusty weapons, obviously scavenged from graves or battlefields. Elyn steels herself for action, rembering what one of her old textbooks said: 'Goblins are low, stupid and disgusting creatures; natural cowards. Despite this they are inquisitive, so stealth is vital when they are around'

She peaks out again, growing bolder each time the monsters fail to notice her soying on them. The short reptilian figures squabble over the elf's sword, completely oblivious to her. Despite her fear, the young nurse realizes with growing confidence that she can outwit these dull creatures. Searching around, Elyn finds a cobble stone torn loose from the pavement which fits snugly in her hand. She holds the stone to her breast, her mere century and change of life flashing before her eyes as she prays to the gods to protect her.

She pops out from around the corner; two goblins still fight over the sword while the others are now trying to extricate the elf from his glinting armor. None of them notice her and she notices off to the left is a small stairwell alley leading off the main path. Focusing with all her might the young elf throws the rock aged watches it bounce into the stairwell and loudly bang down it.

Elyn immediately hides, hearing the goblins gibbering excitedly. She listrns as they hurry off, peaking out to see all four of them banging together as they scramble down the stairway.

Elyn silently waits a few seconds to see if they're fallen for her ruse; when the sound of the goblins hads faded to quickly and quietly oad over to the warrior. A stab is visible on the side of his chest and blood trickes from the gaps in his armor.

Is he still alive?
