Chapter 35 by WaspWoman WaspWoman

Where does she lead him?

Through the city

Cat ran forwards and checked over her shoulder to ensure he was following, before leaping off the roof and sliding down the slanted glass side. They rapidly approached the edge, where the slope abruptly stopped and left only a vertical drop to the road below. At the last moment, Cat leapt off the edge and fired her grappling hook around at a gargoyle on the side of the opposite building and used her momentum to swing up and onto another roof. Spider-Man followed close behind her, but Cat never slowed down to let him catch up, only occasionally looking back to check he was still there. She vaulted over a duct on the roof, as she made her way to the opposite edge.

"Where are you taking me?" He shouted after her, as he leapt over the duct moments after her.

"Spoilers!" She called back, before leaping off the edge of the building in a dive. The ground rapidly approached, but she remained calm and fired her grappling hook at a lamppost as she was about to reach it, it looped around and caught, swinging her under it and around the corner of the building, into the alleyway beside it, where she landed safely, her legs hitting the ground running. She leapt up onto a fire escape and started quickly scaling its levels, swinging herself up and over the edges of them. She turned to check Spider-Man was doing the same, "Come on, hurry up!"

"I'm coming!" He shouted back, easily climbing up the side of the fire escape thanks to his powers. Cat swung herself onto the roof, rolling herself as she did, so she could jump back to her feet, taking off along it. He landed beside her in a run and fired a web at her, pulling on it so that he was now in front, he looked over his shoulder at her, "Come on, hurry up."

"Wrong way." Cat laughed, quickly turning to the right and leaping over the gap between two buildings. Spider-Man quickly skidded to a halt, as he spun to follow after her. The two of them continued to make their way across rooftops, as they traversed across the city.

After a little while, Cat leapt across the street and fired her grappling hook onto a tree branch, swinging herself under it and onto another branch, as she started to run through the trees of Central Park, leaping and swinging between them, with Spider-Man following close behind. Once on the other side, Cat leapt onto a cornice, lining the sides of one of the buildings, and leapt up them to climb onto the roof. When she rolled back to her feet on top of it, Spider-Man once again landed beside her, matching her running speed.

"Why are you taking me to Times Square?" He asked, looking around at the nearby buildings and recognising where they were. Cat shook her head.

"You'll see. All in due time." Cat laughed, as she leapt across another gap between two buildings. She was enjoying this and was hoping he was too. It didn't take them much longer before they swung across Times Square, and as they landed on the other side, she saw Spider-Man start to slow, but Cat still kept running, "Don't stop yet!"

Spider-Man sped up again, following closely behind her as she continued to make her way across the city, the Empire State building growing ever closer.

"Okay, so Empire State, right?" He asked, breathing hard. Clearly, he was getting tired.

"If you need a rest, just ask." Cat replied, swinging across a road.

"No, I'm fine." He breathed, swinging across it after her. It wasn't much longer before Cat leapt onto the side of the Empire State building and started to climb it. Spider-Man quickly caught up to her as she climbed, he held out a hand to her, "Need a hand?"

"Sure." Cat said, taking it. If she didn't have to pretend she wasn't bonded to the symbiote, she could've easily beaten him to the top. He swung her around and onto his back as he quickly scaled the side. Once they got to the uppermost roof section, Cat climbed off his back.

"Where to now?" He breathed, he was exhausted, but clearly didn't want to stop if she wasn't going it. Cat sat down on the roof.

"It's alright, we're done." She breathed, relaxing as she lay down on it, putting her arms behind her head. He dropped to the roof, sitting beside her. She looked over at him, "See?"

"See…what?"

"Isn't this better than sitting on that roof? We just crossed through Central Park and Times Square, and now we're sitting on the top of the Empire State Building, looking out over the entire city. Isn't it incredible what we can do? I mean, how many other people can do that?"

"Yeah, you're right, it was fun. I haven't done something like that in so long, I guess I just got used to being able to do it and forgot it's something most people can't do."

"That's what makes us special, and what makes living life that much more fun. We can do anything we want."

"Just because we can, doesn't mean we should; with great power comes great responsibility." He stated, his voice slightly stern as he looked over at her. Cat removed her arms from behind her head and sat up slightly.

"Okay yes, I steal, and you stop criminals like me. But, the point is, your 'responsibility' doesn't mean you can't still have fun with your powers, like we just did."

"Okay, fair enough."

"So, you'll live your life to the fullest then?"

Will he?
