Chapter 8 by dracone

What's next?

Thoughts of Breaking Free

Gavin was working to mend his equipment when he saw a possible opportunity to make an escape. He had encountered such scenarios before, every attempt had led to him being back in his current situation. If something were to not change for him, drastically, the whole cycle would just repeat itself over again. Gavin had made...he lost count after a dozen or so attempts to break free of the situation he had been **** into.

Gavin’s first attempt, which was six or seven years ago, was notable in that he was literally at the edge of a forest when he made a break for it, only to get caught twenty minutes later by a ranger employed by the crown, that guy was almost as much of dick as Sir Galthias, no surprise when Gavin later learned the ranger and Galthias were cousins. Gavin didn’t try making a break for it, just made sure to get as much info as he could about things and covertly prepare for his escape.

He tried five more times over the years, with similar results. It ultimately resulted in him realizing that he would need to be literally kidnapped by a powerful **** or entity so that could actually get out of his **** obligations. This of course, led to him fantasizing what he would actually do when he was finally free from his position. Gavin couldn’t quite understand, why were they so insistent on him remaining where he was? No explanations were ever given, not that anyone would bother with that sort of thing when communicating with him. Gavin was a peasant that had been conscripted into the knights because of a short-lived decree by the king, it was practically forgotten after six or seven years which prompted a lot of people to wonder what the point of the whole thing was. Gavin himself was barely trained to begin with, and his so-called mentor seemed to hardly notice anything he did most of the time.

When the day came that Gavin was finally broken free of the situation he was **** into he would be a very happy man. The sort of skillset he had cultivated made him quite useful for maintaining and repairing equipment, the sort of abilities almost any soldier would be praised for. Gavin was technically a member of the military but he had barely been taught the basics before the egotistical knight he was **** into following practically started dragging him around to places that **** Gavin to learn smithing, carpentry, and finances because of how the man operated. This man, Sir Galthias, was barely able to meet the minimum requirements for a knight, how he was not relieved of service all this time was still a mystery to Gavin.
