Chapter 5
by Lilyflier
What's next?
Thomas' international think tank goes a little overboard.
It took 27 minutes for the idea to spread from the lone walker to her family. Only 9 minutes after that before it was shared on social media. 22 minutes later it was the source for several viral memes, which soon flooded the inbox of practically every public intellectual. From there it spread amongst different circles, through think tanks around the world as the memes were translated and translated again. In only about 6 hours it was practically impossible to find anyone who didn't believe that it was their personal fantastic idea to ensure that Thomas Peterson was in for a good time. But of course, those not in the top 1% of intellectuals believed it best to only help by spreading the idea, after all, they didn't want to impede on Thomas Peterson's freedom.
The call arrived after only an hour and half, and soon swift but incredibly smart ideas were being proposed to Thomas to maximize his long-term freedom. An hour later a psychological profile of everyone in a 5 mile radius of Thomas' location was thoroughly investigated, and people were being injected into various social circles around the area to minimize crime and ultimately indirectly maximize Thomas' freedom. Unbeknownst to Thomas (to keep his mind free of anxiety) before the end of the day, hidden cameras and bugs were planted all over in and around his house via insect-like robots in the most close locations. The environment was improved in subtle ways, accounting for the worries that would arise if things were to improve too rapidly for Thomas.
People with psychological profiles which fit Thomas' preference were **** and flown in to be made a part of his surroundings. The douche-y neighbor who always played loud music when Thomas was trying to sleep? Flown to the other side of the planet. Every post any profile linked to Thomas had made was being actively investigated by tens of thousands of psychologists and various experiments were being performed around the world to ensure no mistakes were made.
During the night, various mechanisms were planted and used to monitor Thomas' health such that his life could be prolonged for as long as possible. Several robots (who's components alone would have probably won the makers nobel prizes had the tradition of nobel prize giving not been cancelled due to wasting time that could be used to further the idea) went into Thomas' bedroom and collected data about his brain, which was being mapped out with incredible accuracy.
Practically every measure was being taken to accomplish the idea.
So, when Thomas called the next day to inform the think tank of his "curse" and use it to convince them he was telling the truth: "I have an idea, you all believe I have a curse which works as follows...", they all but fell out of their seats at having missed something so key to the operation. The man on the other side of the line uttered a quick "We'll call you back." before hanging up abruptly. It was quickly understood that it was likely they were affected by Thomas in some way by the "curse" given how it functioned, but it was also understood they would have no way of knowing that it wasn't their idea. Every imaginable effort was made to come up with methods to effectively share ideas without unintended consequences to maximize Thomas' freedom, and before long virtually all the details were figured out. Thomas was informed of the important relevant details, and he spreads a few recommended ideas to minimize the chance of making a fatal error and then spent the rest of the day considering how to use his curse-turned-superpower.
The ideas spread for insurance were:
- Everyone should (become unable to receive any information and hum softly) for a minute after believing Thomas Peterson is about to share an idea with them unless Thomas Peterson says "Override mental lockdown" a minute or less before this occurs.
- Everyone should do whatever Thomas Peterson requests of them if Thomas Peterson says "I command thee" a minute or less before the request is given.
After only two short days, all his wildest dreams were at his fingertips...
What did Thomas do next?

Stolen Ideas
After a curse makes everyone steal your ideas, you quickly realize that it might be a blessing in disguise.
After being accused of stealing someone else's idea you end up being cursed for it. From now on, any idea you express will be immediately stolen by those who hear it and they wont ever know that it came from you in the first place. However, you might realize that it's not much of a curse if they do so no matter how weird your idea is in the first place...
