Things get complicated

When 6 o'clock nears, Penny texts me: 'Coming over now. I'll pick up pizzas on the way. what do you like?'

'feeling like vegetarian'

'sure. Garlic bread?'

'well if ur gonna'

'eh gotta have a cheat day every once in a while'

About 20 minutes later, and Penny is ringing my doorbell. I find her wearing similar attire to last night. She and the smell of fresh pizza follow me to my dining table. There, she says "Sorry about disappearing this morning."

"Oh it's cool. Not the first time after picking up a stranger from the bar."

"Ha. Fair enough."

We both swiftly devour our pizzas and garlic bread, eager to get onto other things. After eating, I say "So, have you already taken a tour?"

"Yeah. It's a nice place Roxy."

"Thanks. May I ask your reason for needing a new place?"

"I live in an apartment and the people that moved in are junkies."

"Ugh. I know the feeling." Even though mine was a little closer to home.

"Plus it'd be nice to have some more space, you know?"

"Totally."

"So anything I should know?"

"Hate to ask, but any criminal record?"

"Nope, my record's squeaky clean." Might have to check that later. "Anything else?"

"Not really."

"Cool. Now I have something to ask you." Her foot grazes mine once more as her smile grows.

"It's not just the house you're interested in, is it?"

"Pretty much."

"Well I'm flattered, but there are a few things you should know about me if that's what you're asking."

Penny raises an eyebrow. "Yeah?"
