As small as she is, Lux is starting to feel heavy in Olan’s tired arms as he plods his away along the corridor, following Atara’s lead. Looking down at her, Olan can only feel shame at his earlier actions. She’s as beautiful as ever, her soft breasts pressed against him as they rise and fall, but he can’t see her in that way now. He’d even said out loud that she made him think of Talia, of his daughter. And yet – he can’t deny what he did with her. Did to her.

Atara stops at a door and places her hand on it for a moment before nodding slightly and sliding it open. On the other side, Olan can see a clean and welcoming space with a number of beds – a sick-room. “In here. There should be a key I can use for the collars, and then we can talk about our next steps.”

Frowning, Olan follows her inside. Rooms like this one are a distant memory for him, but there is a certain sense of safety here still. “Can’t say I like what you’re implying about ‘next steps’,” he says.

Atara motions him towards one of the beds. “I imagine you’re thinking of getting yourself and the girl out of here, and leaving the rest of us to deal with our own problems,” she says, as he carefully sets Lux down to rest, “but the outca– that is to say, your former allies, have sealed all the exterior doors. There’s no way out for anyone until we take back control.”

Olan glowers at her, but he can’t deny that she’s right. “None of us are in any state to fight,” he points out.

“On that, we agree.” Atara walks over and opens a metal cabinet set into the wall, returning with an armful of potions and other supplies. “Now – let’s have a look at those cuts…”
