What's for lunch?
They keep it simple with sandwiches
Once enough voices raise to confirm that getting something to eat would be a good idea, Dani smiles and heads to one of the duffel bags still by the door and carries it over to the kitchen, unzipping it and pulling out a variety of grocery items they'd brought with them. The cheerleader pulls out some bread, some deli meats and a few vegetables before beginning to chop some things up to make sandwiches.
"So, what happens when we run out?" Kate asks curiously, leaning over the opposite end of the counter to watch Dani work.
"Well, there's a service station about half an hour from here, and a little further than that is a proper shop so, if we do run out of things we can always get one of the guys to drive us for a restock." Dani explains, cutting up a tomato and setting the slices aside as she moves onto a cucumber.
"And... we have enough money for the whole vacation?" Kate then follows up, not wanting to leave anything to chance.
"Trust me Katie, even if I do run out of money all it takes is a phone call to my Dad and he'll help us out. No one is going to starve"
It was understandable why Kate was so insistent they have a plan for this kind of thing, her own mother was notoriously terrible with money to the point that the lilac-haired girl had gone hungry on more than one occasion. Dani however was confident, between her rich father, Amy's wealthy parents, Christian's parents, Mike's father and all of their collective savings, they weren't going to have much trouble at all.
"Damn!" Christian laughed as for the final time he saw his character slammed into the dirt by James'. "Can't even take a round off of you huh?"
"To be fair, James plays this game a hell of a lot, I keep telling him he should go for tournaments, I reckon he'd make a killing." Mike explained, taking the controller as Christian passes it off,
"It's just practise." the nerd is quick to deflect, returning to the character select screen as he and Michael prepare for a new game,
"I dunno, Mike has a point, how many flawless rounds was that anyway?" Christian snorted,
"Six." Brianna helpfully recalled, smiling to herself as she continues skimming her book idly.
James picks the same character he always used, a gruff old man with a wild, spiky haircut, while Mike picks a character who looks like some buff psycho with snakeskin pants. The round begins, and unlike the one sided bout that Christian had, the contest between these two is far more back and forth, Mike even getting away with a few outright victories.
"Shit, looks like you're not bad at this either" Christian notes, seeing how James' eyes are glued to the screen, a result of having to actually focus,
"It comes with time, SteelFist is one of those games you need to put a decent amount of learning into." Mike dismisses, even though he moves on to execute a high level combo to take another game for himself,
"Well, I mean that and Mike's already got a lot of the theory down. You need to know what your opponent is going to do as much as yourself, and Mike's the only one I know who's had actual experience fighting." James notes,
Christian leans back into his seat and looks at Mike, surprised. "You never told me you were a fighter." he says impressed,
"Well, 'fighter' isn't entirely accurate, I just train." the Aussie corrects, his attention lacking for a moment as James comes back with a hard read and hands his character their ass.
Christian raises an eyebrow and nods slowly, he never would have picked it. Even now Mike was wearing a hoodie over his shirt, so it was hard to assess how built he might be. They were around the same height, but while Christian was often in the habit of wearing tight fitting shirts, Michael preferred wearing baggier clothing or jumpers around school.
"Still though, that's awesome man. When did you start?" the asian guy asks, interested in the topic.
"Oh uh, my Dad got me into it when I was a kid. He's super old school and into all that discipline and self control stuff, he had a rough childhood so he wanted me to be prepared, especially when we moved here and we had no clue what school I'd be going to." Mike elaborates, tying up the game with James at 2-2.
A feminine voice chimes in from behind as Amy approaches and leans down to hug Christian from behind the couch.
"Did I hear that right? You fight people Mike?" she asked curiously, causing the guy to become a little flustered at all the attention he's receiving,
"Tch." he frowns, seeing James get away with a victory as his focus becomes split by all the questions. Putting the controller down for now, he leaned back against the couch. "I mean, I wouldn't phrase it like that. Mostly it's just friendly sparring matches or local competitions, I've never actually been in a street fight, Dad tells me it's just about the dumbest thing you can do."
"Sounds like a smart guy" Christian nods in agreement, "Still though, you've got to be pretty good at it right? If you've been doing it for that long?"
Mike humbly shrugged, "I win and I lose, same as everyone else. My coach tells me if I took it full time I'd be pretty good though"
"You're so full of shit" Brianna laughed, addressing Christian and Amy, "I've seen him fight, he's amazing."
Uncomfortable with the amount of praise and attention, Mike breathes a sigh of relief as Dani leans over the kitchen counter and calls out.
"Lunch is ready! Get your butts over here!"
