They get stiffed... And not in a good way.

"What the hell do you mean you're not paying us!?" Kazuma, Aqua and Cremea roared at the man in front of them, a smug little fop of a man with two armed guards... Who were dragging a dead monster alligator behind them.

"You do realize that Quest Fraud is a serious crime, punishable by many years in prison, don't you?" Fio growled angrily.

"It is indeed... Unfortunately, you didn't hold up your end of the quest, and thus, I am under no obligation to uphold mine," the smug noble replied.

"The hell do you mean by that!?" Megumin growled, not at all pleased. She had her eyes on a skill point boosting potion she could use to boost her Explosion, damn it!

"As you recall, the quest required that you kill ALL of the monster alligators," the noble replied, pointing to the one that his guards were dragging. "You missed at least one, which my guards killed, and therefore, you did not complete the quest."

Kazuma was deeply enraged at this. "That's bullshit!" he roared, needing Darkness to hold him back from tackling the noble and beating the living daylights out of him. "We made damn well sure the lake was clear, we check it top to bottom with the Detect Enemy Skill!"

"...you DID bring all of the corpses with you, didn't you?" Fio asked Darkness in an undertone, suspecting that this noble prick was passing off one of their kills as proof his guards killed it.

"Of course I did, Kazuma wouldn't let me hear the end of it if I left a source of cash behind, and their hides fetch a pretty penny!" Darkness hissed back.

"Well, it's too bad, you clearly didn't look hard enough," the noble shrugged. "Now, if you peasants will excuse me, I have a vacation to get to..." he sneered, turning to go as Kazuma cursed. Without proof that they were cheated, they had no legal recourse... Maybe some illegal recourse was in order...
