Do Gawain’s words have any effect on me?
They don’t
Those things Gawain said. If only he had done them back when he needed to do them. Then everything still would have gone alright. But he didn’t. Which resulted in me needing to move into Gavin’s farm. Where all of his sons molested me. I have been used and abused. Completely ruined. All because Gawain couldn’t be a man.
“I’m sorry, brother. But the things you want … they can’t happen anymore.” I tell him.
I see Gawain’s expression change. Like he has suddenly been slapped in the face.
“G … Gwen?” He asks.
“What we had is gone, Gawain.” I say as I step towards the rope on the opposite side. “You need to let go of me.”
Then I step over the rope and walk into the forest on the opposite side of the path where Gawain is standing. My future is not with him.
I hear Gawain calling out to me from behind. “Gwen, you’re making a mistake. We belong together. You’re my soulmate. Gwen! I love you! Come back to me!”
It is no use. I have already made up my mind. I simply keep on walking. I don’t bother to listen to his words, nor do I even bother looking back. I’m sorry, brother. But it’s over between us. It already has been over for a while.
