Chapter 8 by aassssssasssssssssss aassssssasssssssssss

What's next?

They aren't immediately hostile

Sam held up his shield, awaiting to be attacked, but what followed was silence; these girls were still goblins, there was a malicious tact to them, but also a unique sense of humanity that wasn't removed, like with male goblins. Seeing Sam's openings and unimpressive state, they looked at each other before putting down their weapons. In broken English, they asked Sam if he had to be their enemy; if there was any potential for peace or a deal to be made. Sam was surprised, but he answered back right away, saying that he was there to recruit some goblins to become his tamed monsters. The goblin sisterhoods often safeguarded knowledge for their sisters, so they knew how to speak English fairly well and what a tamer was. It was a claim over their life, maybe even their soul, giving even dying tamers the ability to threaten their lives if the master was vile enough. Since they were only around male and female goblins their whole lives, they couldn't imagine a master with their interests in mind being possible, and so refused him, asking what other alternatives there were. When Sam told them that cooperative monsters can be relocated to areas of their species, Sam watched as pained expressions flooded their face. There were surely other goblin sisterhoods, but whether they ended up on the undeveloped surface (for goblins) or the underground battlefields, being swarmed and taken advantage of was certain. Usually, female goblins are taken at birth to female goblin sanctuaries where they can grow their numbers, but female goblins who weren't given an emblem from a goblin sisterhood, or are from a destroyed sisterhood, are prey for goblins hoping to rise in power.

The female goblins asked again, but there were no other choices, and so they were left to consider their options. As such, they chose the option likely to guarantee a life without endless **** or **** by countless green bastards; they chose to become slaves to Sam's tamer crest, making it impossible to defy him. As for why, it was simple, although Sam's face was smiling and positive, his eyes were tortured, pained, and he gave a scent of ****, as if he wanted to die. With any hope, this 'contract' could end soon, and they might be able to escape after regaining their footing.

After becoming his tamed creatures, the women were surprised, their tamed state wasn't as their books described, Sam's hold over them was... weaker? They still felt connected to him, but his low tamer aptitude meant his tamer power wasn't a constraining or overwhelming ****, more like a soft rope between their hearts. They could tell, without even trying, that tamer unique traits, like sensing who their master was through illusions, were still there. But Sam's tamer aptitude was worse than anyone thought, meaning that he could only ask them to do things and stop them. The absolute obedience by other tamed creatures and the ability to do stuff like shock their tamed monsters through the tamer contract weren't there.

When asking Sam why that was, Sam explained that his tamer powers were worse than he thought, and that he also wanted to try making meaningful connections, so he made them leave out the brainwashing feature. Hearing this, the goblin women questioned if they were wrong to choose Sam, but decided to go through with it anyway since they were already bound, asking what Sam wanted of them. Sam asked what they thought he should do, what their strengths were, what their talents were, and what they WANTED to do, hearing their suggestions before telling them to trust him. They didn't like Sam's idea, wanting to stay or call for human reinforcements, but they agreed his departure might embolden the goblins, so they decided to go with him.

Sam consoled his new six goblin companions, asking what their names and powers were, only to learn they went by serial numbers, numbers which are reselected when the goblin woman with that number dies, since names were precious and had the chance to evoke an upgrade if the name-giver was special or strong enough. Though Sam didn't think much of himself, he decided to name them as he heard about their eccentricities:

  1. F.G. 420: Arlet: Water magic
  2. F.G. 69: Coraline: Daggers
  3. F.G. 227: Kiana: Greatsword
  4. F.G. 117: Kyra: Spear
  5. F.G. 21: Araceli: Wild sorcery (shaman magic)
  6. F.G. 88: Azaria: Archery

After first taking count of their hostages, Sam asked Araceli to cast a barrier blocking sensory spells while Arlet duplicated water tainted with poison. As this was happening, Sam had the other three and him kill goblins until all the goblins were infected, dead or alive. Some lived, but they were the dismembered ones, allowing them to leave without worry, rushing out of the cave while puppets with illusion magic attacked the big goblins. These goblins were cocky, foolish, and the worst of any possible emotion, so it was easy to direct this un-unified horde, leaving the other areas weak enough for them to break through.
