Then Why Did You Call!

"Then why did you call?" you ask angrily, your voice sharp with frustration and fear. The mysterious woman chuckled again, it sent new waves of frustration through you.

"Because, I'm rooting for you" she says, her tone playful. "I want you to succeed... in whatever outcome that may be."

Alex squeezed your hand to get your attention. You look at him and see his eyes filled with concern and confusion. He mouths, "What is she saying?" but you shake your head, maybe you should've put the phone on speaker. Then you recall what she said about you enjoying all this, the thought of Alex hearing that made you grateful you didn't.

"We won't know until the 48 hours are up. Well, I think I've taken up enough of your time" the woman said, with a heavy sigh. Her words pulled you out of your own thoughts.

"there should be a box in the living room with some things you'll find useful. Consider it an apology gift for earlier. Goodluck!" She says cheerfully before hanging up.
