Chapter 11 by Zeebop Zeebop

Where Do They Go?

Themyscira, Isle of the Amazons

They flew. Lois Lane didn't care where. She felt so tired suddenly...and there were odd pains, deep inside of her. A building pressure in her abdomen. A kind of full-body malaise, like a bad case of stomach flu. The wind whipped past her, and she snuggled against Superman as her stomach ache worsened, like the worst bloating and cramping of her life.

At some point, she must have slept...because when she opened her eyes, the sun had risen...and they were out over the ocean. Blue waves lapped beneath them. White clouds, colored pink by the dawning sun, overhead. Dimly, Lois remembered the old bit of lore: "Red sky at morning, sailor take warning..."

Superman's face was set, his mouth a harsh line, blue eyes fixed on the horizon as he flew, she was sure, as fast as he safely could while Lois was in her arms.

Then she felt something shift inside of her. Looked down...and gasped at the definite swell in her belly. It was more than just a bit of bloating. Her normally flat stomach had domed out...and she could feel something move inside of her. Panic struck the reporter, but then they began to descend.

The island was shrouded in morning mist. Women, naked to the waist, fished with spears and raked for oysters in the shallows; others set out with nets in small wooden boats. They watched as Superman came in low, just above the surface of the water. The women were tall, lithe, statuesque, well-muscled. There was no fear in their eyes, their hands tightened on their tools, ready to use them as weapons...but Superman stopped short of the shore. A dark-haired woman, in star-spangled kilt and breastplate stepped forward, the dawn light glinted off her tiara.

"That's far enough, Superman," Wonder Woman said as she raised her arms, the bracelets flashing in the sun. "I'll take her from here."

Face still set in that stony glare, eyes filled with concern, Superman stretched out his arms...and Lois looked about in shock and dismay as she was handed from hero to heroine, like a sack of potatoes.

Or a patient.

"It's okay, Lois," Wonder Woman said as she turned and carried Lois toward the beach. A set of white marble steps led up through the green beach-grasses. "It'll be all right now."

The reporter looked over the Amazon's shoulder....and saw Superman hovering there, offshore. Not wanting to break their taboo, that no man should set foot on the Amazon's island. Yet as the thing inside of her continued to move, and she winced as it began to pressed against her stomach from within, Lois wondered if it was really going to be okay.

Is it going to be alright?
