Chapter 27 by ShaddragSD ShaddragSD

"Oh shit."

The world has moved on without you

Perhaps some background might be helpful. You worked in a law firm as a paralegal. Your days were mostly occupied with paper pushing, copious amounts of research, and drafting documents for other people to read. You didn't talk to clients directly, that was someone else's job. Instead, you had to handle all the paperwork from a cubicle in an office which never got much glamour points.

The elevator doors opened to a large hall filled with over two dozen cubicles. The sides of the hall were lined with rooms for the executives and fancy lawyers who did the face-to-face work with clients. Way outside your domain.

As the elevator doors opened and Sandy waved at you and walked off to another department down the hall, you could clearly see multiple women in the workplace look up at you and get nervous or flustered. You shared their unease, as your new powers told you that over half of the women in your workplace were gay.

There was Lexi, a bright young redhead intern who was fresh off her law degree and here working at her first job. Donna was a seasoned paralegal in her thirties, who sometimes even handled clients when there wasn't a lawyer immediately available to talk to them because of her experience. Tang and Kaylee, both married and both working as lawyers in the firm with adjacent offices to one another. Georgie, the brunette who sat next to you, someone who was usually quiet about herself unless pets were involved in the conversation, which seemed to be her one outlet for fun. Heather had short messy black hair and was another paralegal, but you knew that she was aiming to work her way to becoming a lawyer in the future and she took her work very seriously. Collette was a French girl who usually kept her hair in a braid and kept to herself outside of her work because of her accent. The boss seemed to like her work very much, but she still kept her head down at the office enough that most people didn't pay her much attention after a glance or two for her foreign good looks. The list just kept going on the more you turned and looked around the room.

Speaking of your boss, however, Miss Mary strode out of her office on the floor overlooking the cubicle area and gave you the 'come hither' finger motion. She was a partner at the law firm, and supposedly a fearsome lawyer in the courtroom. She decided what cases your firm would take or deny, and often sat in and handled major clients for the firm. "John, my office right now. I need a word with you immediately." All the women you'd noticed eyeing you seemed to deflate just an inch as Miss Mary summoned you, while you felt that anxiety from earlier start mounting again.

You could feel eyes following you as you walked through the office and up the small staircase leading up to the second floor extension. There were too many to pairs to count, you didn't want to look at them right now. You had a bigger problem you were about to face.

Entering Miss Mary's corner office, she tells you to close the door as you come in, which you do. She doesn't immediately say anything as you approach her desk, but simply leans over the table and sighs like she's puzzling over a problem. You don't say anything until she does, but you have a rough idea of what she's called you here to talk about anyways. One look at her and you know that she's gay.

In the den of the lion
