The upper floors seem safer

It was a grueling decision, but you eventually concede that it would be actually be less hazardous to cross the dessert than to brave the haunted depths beneath the pyramid. With that in mind, you carry onward through the stone halls. The walls are engraved with a variety with hieroglyphs, though you only understand a few of them. Many seem to be images of the Egyptians gods, sculpted, bronzed skinned men with the heads of beasts. But surely no such creatures exist, right?

Among the scenes is one of the Jackal-headed god of the dead, Anubis, weighing the soul of sobbing mortal. Quite the cheery image, especially since the impure were supposed to be gobbled up by a beast that seems equal parts crocodile, lion, and hippopotamus. For a fleeting second, you wonder if such a fate is in store for your classmates, but you push the grim thoughts aside.

Just when it seems that the hallway will never end, you each another turn in the path, around which you notice the blaring of torchlight. Someone must be in here! Or some thing. Come to think of it, you still don't know if mummies are real yet. Trying to be subtle, you peer around the corner, hoping to catch sight of the room within. Of course, you are still completely naked and quite a mess, so staying hidden might not be easy.
