Chapter 9 by brambank brambank

Where should Leanne search?

The third floor

Leanne decided if she was going to find out what Nurse Rachel was up to then she'd need to catch her in the act. And she was more likely to do that if she followed her on her daily rounds of the residents' rooms.

Leaving the receptionist, Leanne took the stares. She really didn't want to end up stuck in the elevator even if it was faster. A breathless 10 minutes later and she arrived on the third floor. Taking a moment to compose herself as she panted desperately. "Cardio is good." she told herself. "I might need it to run away later."

Whilst the joke didn't really comfort her, looking around the dank corridor of the third level did focus her mind. There was no sign of life. Leanne wasn't sure if that was good or bad right now. After a few minutes she heard a faint noise. She froze. Unsure what it was and where it came from. Stepping cautiously along the silent corridor she kept a wary look out for any sign of movement. Then she heard it again.

It was a woman's voice and it was coming from beyond a door which had been left open just a crack. She moved silently and quickly towards it. Listening again she knew it must be the nurse she was looking for. But what to do about it?

Before she could think a flash of movement caught her eye. Spinning back to the corridor Leanne spotted someone standing just a few metres away staring at her. "Oh come on!" she groaned. "Not this guy now."

It was a clown. Which would have been creepy enough at the best of times but especially so here all alone in this gloomy, abandoned corridor. Leanne glanced back at the room. Rachel didn't know she was on to her yet, she could just walk in and offer her help. On the other hand it might be better to wait and catch her in action. Then again she had the clown to contend with. But was he actually so dangerous or was in just in her mind?

What should Leanne do?
