Chapter 4

Which job do you take?
The suspected werewolf
Although the drowner job could pay the most it has to many variables. You decide that the werewolf is the better split between risk and reward. You pull off the notice and read the directions on where to find the poster. You aren't very familiar with the city but the instructions are clear so you make your way, asking locals if you are headed in the right direction when you get unsure.
Eventually you arrive at a tightly packed maze of small shacks, stacked one on top of the other. You expect to be searching the houses for the one you need but you quickly spot one that looks nothing like the others. The house is much more dilapidated and the windows are boarded up hastily. This must be the home of the suspected werewolf.
You knock on a few doors of houses adjacent to the boarded up one until you find the family that posted the notice. A man that looks much older than he probably is answers the door, behind him you can see a woman crouched near a hearth tending to a pot of soup. The house itself is quaint albeit ram-shackled and old.
“What can I do for you milady?” The gentleman inquires. You notice him deftly observing your stature and weaponry. You suspect he was once a soldier of some kind.
“I'm here about the notice.” After a moment he looks at you confused so you confirm: “The werewolf.”
“Oh yes, of course. I'm sorry I just expected... well I didn't expect you is all.”
“Trust me, I can do the job.”
“Well then, come in, please. I'll tell you what I know!”
The man steps aside and gestures you inside. The room is smaller than it first appeared and it seems to be a kitchen, living area, and bathroom all in one. There is a rickety wooden staircase in the corner leading to a second floor, perhaps a bedroom or pantry. There isn't much seating besides a dinner table so you stand and face the couple.
The man introduces himself as Calder and his wife is Jeanne. He gives you more detail on his neighbor, whom he suspects is a werewolf. He's never actually seen the transformation but he here's distinct wolf sounds from the house at night and the neighbor rarely leaves his residence. You could ask him more questions but it would be easiest to simply investigate yourself. You doubt the man's claims that there is a werewolf living in the middle of Novigrad and there has been no other reports about it. Werewolves are usually very feral and aggressive creatures, surely there would be injuries or torn up corpses around that could be attributed to a werewolf.
What do you do?
