The state of things

“Wow…” Shauna said as she walked up to the front door of Patty and Billy’s house. A pride flag fluttered in the breeze from a flagpole.

“He wanted to paint the house in the pride colors. This was our compromise.” Billy said.

The two boys brought her inside and sat her down on the couch.

“So… how’s things?” Shauna asked.

“Well… I actually have to take the stand for the first time in two days.” Patty said “I don’t know much about law… but they’ve been stalling.”

“I know…” Shauna said “her defense attorney is an absolute nut case. Woman named Hannah Fisher. She’s a ‘women’s rights activist.”

“What now?” Patty asked

“Basically she believes that giving men rights dilutes or outright destroys the rights of women.”

“Rights aren’t a pie.” Billy said

“You know that, I know that… but people like her refuse to use normal logic.”

“Goddess… she sounds like she needs to spend less time on the internet.” Patty said “now I’m really nervous.”

“Hey… you’ve got the two of us.” Billy said.

Patty smiled at him.

“Yeah… you’re right…” he said.
