Chapter 9
What spell does Helen do next?
The same spell or something extra?
After leaving Helen to entertain herself with reading the spellbook, Adam dealt with the chores that he had been planning to do today. It also gave him the time to reflect on how their life was going to change now Helen was essentially a witch. A witch that used her powers to possess people and use their bodies to commit sexual acts. Adam hated how turned on he was by Helen having these powers, and this was only the tip of the iceberg.
With his chores done, Adam sat down in the lounge to play videogames. He didn't dare to check in on Helen and decided to leave her to her research. Before he could make any significant progress in his game, Helen barrelled in grinning ear to ear. She clutched the spell-book to her chest tightly.
"So," she began, "I've managed to decipher a bit more in the book, and I've got an idea of how we can use a spell tonight for a little fun."
"Ok, what have you got?" Adam said somewhat sheepishly.
"I was thinking we could both go to the pub. I got the idea when mum mentioned she was working there tonight. I'll go there first and you can join me a little later."
Adam frowned not seeing how any magic was involved. Helen giggled at her boyfriend's confusion.
"I won't be going there in body, but spirit! I'll cast the Astral Projection spell again and possess someone there. It'll be your job to work out who I'm inside!"
"Interesting," Adam said raising an eyebrow. "But you said you'd worked out a bit more of the spell-book. This is pretty much what you've done before with a bit of a twist. Though I do like the twist."
"Well you'll have to work that out too!" Helen laughed. "Maybe I'll be using some more magic whilst I'm there?"
"Fine, keep your secrets," Adam said, acknowledging Helen wasn't going to let him in on exactly what she planned to do. "I'm happy to give this a go, but shouldn't we have some sort of safe word or phrase? In case things go a bit wrong and I really can't work out who you are."
"Yeah, I guess that's sensible. How about if you want to guess that the person you're speaking to is me, you ask them what their favourite colour is?"
"Really?" Adam said surprised at the mundanity of Helen's suggestion.
"Sure! It's a bit random, but I can answer with 'violet my love' and that's something you know no-one else would say. And! If you are totally lost and not in conversation with anyone but want to bail you could order a bowl of chips. I'll see that you've done that and come on over and surprise you," Helen said, very proud of herself.
"You've spent more time thinking about these signals than you did reading that bloody book!" Adam chuckled.
"May-be!" Helen admitted. She was giddy with anticipation and spun round to leave the room. "I'm going now to do the spell and go to the pub. I'll see you there before you see me!"
"I'm sure you will!"

Adam's heart was pounding in his chest as the Fisherman's Arms came into view. The pub was only a five minute walk from their house, and Adam had guessed it wouldn't have taken long for Helen's disembodied spirit to fly over. He was excited for the bizarre game of cat and mouse that they were playing, but also nervous that he might make a fool of himself guessing the wrong person. He supposed Helen was counting on that.
Pushing open the door to enter into the main room with the long bar, Adam was unsurprised to see that it was only half full. It was early evening on a Sunday afterall and most people were **** to have a hangover at the start of a working week. To his disappointment, he couldn't see Susannah anywhere. She was probably in the office doing paperwork.
Adam approached the bar trying to scan the people around him and look as inconspicuous as possible at the same time. He felt a bit ridiculous knowing that Helen would have already seen him and potentially smirked at how rigidly he was moving, failing to act naturally. It was Zoe behind the bar, a cute blonde who went to the same school as Adam but was a few years younger. She was well known throughout the school for being a great gymnast that competed at a national level. Zoe got a scholarship to a top university and must be working at the bar for some extra cash. Would Helen have possessed her? Zoe was certainly attractive and the thought of her flexibility would certainly make her an attractive target for Helen, or at least he hoped it would.
"Hi Adam," Zoe said with a cheery smile, "what can I get for you?"
"Oh, just a pint of stout, thanks," Adam said snapping out of his daze.
"You'll have to be a bit more specific than that. We have two on tap and a few available in bottles."
"Of course," Adam said a little embarrassed. "I'll have a pint of Rusty's then." He thought about sitting on the nearby stool so he could chat with Zoe a little, but decided against it. Helen probably wasn't going to go for someone so obvious and at the bar he wouldn't get a good view of the rest of the room. Adam settled on sitting at a vacant table in the corner that overlooked everyone else. He thanked Zoe for his pint and paid, before moving to his chosen spot.
Sipping his pint, Adam looked over the room hoping to catch someone looking at him or acting suspiciously. As far as he could tell everyone seemed to be paying him no mind. Adam began to feel a wave of anxiety. It was apparent he was going to have to try and approach a table and make idle conversation if he was going to find out who Helen was. He doubted she would just approach him and make it easy. She would want him to really struggle to work it out.
Adam continued to sit and feel sorry for himself whilst slowly drinking his pint. He had mentally noted two tables that he suspected Helen might have chosen someone from. One was a table of five teenagers who must only just be of legal drinking age. There were two boys and three girls at the table. They looked to be behaving themselves though they were a little noisy. Adam didn't recognise any of them, however, and dreaded the thought of trying to engage them in conversation. Surely Helen wouldn't be that cruel.
The other table was a couple that he recognised as neighbours that lived a few doors down. Clive and Donna he thought, recalling their names. Both had to be in their fifties but looked pretty good for their age. Now Adam was actually looking at her, he realised Donna was pretty stunning. Her mid length grey hair and crow's feet betrayed her years, but she had a natural beauty that remained. She was wearing a tight fitting white blouse which showed off her figure and a plaid skirt with black tights and boots. Adam couldn't help but notice that Donna's skirt had risen up a little and was given a decent view of her legs.
Adam finished his pint and decided he'd bite the bullet and approach Clive and Donna's table. He at least knew them and could strike up a neighbourly conversation about gardens or something. And if Helen was possessing Donna... Well he wouldn't complain.
How does Adam's conversation go?
