The rules of the game

——————————————————————————

Author’s note: I made up this whole game (basically a ripoff from bakugan lol) but couldn’t fit it into the story that well, so its just kind of here. I put to much thought into it to just delete so ill leave it here with the rest if my countless mistakes.

—————————————————————————-

The game is made up of 4 decks of cards and a collection of metal cubes. Usually its played on a table but can also be played on the floor or basically any surface large enough.

Both players get 2 stacks of cards 1 stack of heavy cards and 1 stack of light cards. A combination of light and heavy stack is called a deck. a deck is limited to 40 action cards and 20 field cards. There exists a variant where both players share the same deck (this variant isn’t relevant to the story).

They also get their creature cubes or C-cubes. These are metal cubes about 30mm in diameter that pop up when they touch a heavy card. Upon opening a small monster like creature spawns. The balls are filled with nanites and The outer layer is made of metal pieces that lock together. The creature uses the mass of the ball to take shape and uses the little metal bits as “weapons and armor”. The card they stand on makes a connection with the nanites upon contact to make them take shape, and even move a little bit.

There are many different types of creatures, some are humanoid, others look like creatures from mythologie, some are entirely fantastical.

Some examples include: A mage with a long coat, a centipede, a unicorn being carried by a giant bird, rock monsters, a convulsing mass and many more.

Field cards

Field cards are the heavy cards in your deck and are used to determine where creatures can be placed in the arena. They must be placed down and can be flipped (activated) to trigger an effect described on the card. These effects vary wildly and can even temporarily change the rules of the game. The effects will affect both players equally and are usually stronger than action cards. After a field card has been activated they can no longer be activated again.

Some field cards cannot be triggerd by the one who placed them unless a certain condition is met.

Some examples of the possible effects are: minefield: destroy both creatures when a second creature enters the field, honorable duel: both creatures have their strength set to be 500 and any action cards still in effect will be nullified, invite a friend: both players may place an extra creature on the field (their strength is combined) if both creatures have the same element they get +100 combined strength, valuable land: this land deals double damage to enemy LP if captured and many more

Action cards

Action cards are the light cards in your deck and are generally weaker when compared to the effects of field cards and this effect can vary wildly per card. They always only target 1 creature (field cards apply their effect to all creatures on the field).

Action cards have a value attached to them: bronze (1), iron (5), steel (8) These cards where more powerfull but also restricted until a certain number of turns has passed (indicated with the number)

Some action cards are unique to specific creatures and can only be used when that specific creature is in play.

All action cards must be discarded after they are used.

You draw 1 action card at the start of every turn.

Creatures

Creatures are placed on field card with C-cubes. Every creature has a point value attached to it, this value is called strength. Additionally every creature has an affinity. These affinities are: elemental, arcane, technological. Every creature can have every affinity but only ever 1.

The affinities have a rock paper scissors effect on them. If your element overcomes the opponents element then the opponents creature loses a 100 strength.

  • Elemental overcomes arcane

-Arcane overcomes technological

-Technology overcomes elemental

Additionally if you have 3 creatures of the same affinity in the arena you get a boost that lasts as long as you have 3 creatures with that affinity alive on the field.

Elemental —> Gain + 50 strength for every creature on the field, if the enemy has more creatures on the field then destroy 3 elemental creatures and destroy all enemy creatures.

Arcane —> all of your creatures gain +100 strength and + 200 strength if they have the arcane affinity

Before the game:

The 4 stacks of cards are divided between the 2 players.

1 stack is made up of heavy cards: these are the field cards. The other stack is made up of lightweight cards, the action cards. And will be referred to as such from now on.

Start of the game.

both players draw 3 field cards and pick 1. The other 2 will be put at the bottom of the field card stack.

Both players then play this field card in the middle of the playing area (henceforth referred to as the arena). They will then choose a C-cube and place it on the field card their opponent placed down.

During the game

Phases

Both players take turns one by 1 (roll a dice, highest number can choose to go second or first). A turn is split into 3 phases.

Phase 1: the player draws a field card, he may choose to play it or keep it (you may not hold more than 3 field cards in your hand, any extra will be automatically discarded) . If the decision is made to play the newly drawn field card you may also place an extra C-cube in the summoning phase. If you do not play the new card you may choose to play a field card already in your hand.

Phase 2: the player may place 1-2 C-cubes on any field card currently in play. If the field card is also accupied by an opposing creature combat will begin. You must play at least 1 creature, if you have no more creatures left then you are unable to complete the phase and your opponent wins the game.

Phase 3: the action phase, during this turn you may play action cards. You may play no more then 3 action cards (action cards used during combat do not count toward this total).

Combat

Combat begins when 2 opposing creatures meet on the same field. And is also made up of phases, this time however the phases are shared by both players..

Combat phase 1: the defending player may choose to play either an action card, activate the field card or skip this phase.

Combat phase 2: the attacking player may choose to play an action card, trigger the field card or engage in battle*

Combat phase 3: the defending player may activate the field card or skip this phase

Combat phase 4: at this point both players may take turns and play up to action cards starting with the defending player. This repeats until a maximum of 6 actions cards have been used in total OR the player who had the weakest creature when combat began chooses to engage in combat (this player may interrupt the opponents turn for this).

If the maximum number of action cards are reached the creatures will engage in combat.

If one player runs out of action cards he will automatically skip his turn. If both sides run out of action cards then the creatures will engage in combat

Combat phase 5: after combat the winning side will do damage to the opponents lifepool. How much damage is based on how much strength your creatures had compared to your opponents creatures divided by 2.

Example: you win combat with creatures of 600 strength, your opponents had creatures of 500 strength. You then deal 100:2 = 50 damage to your opponents health pool.

Additionally, you will capture the enemies field card. Remove it from the arena and put it face-up.

*engaging in combat: all creatures on the field card will engage in combat and the side with the highest strength will win. The players will also roll a dice, whichever player got the highest number was allowed to roll a second dice, if this die rolls a 6 a critical hit is deliverd and the opponent loses 200 strength.

Winning the game

Winning the game is done by reducing your opponents lifepool (LP) to 0.

This is done through 2 main methods. The first winning battles (see combat) is the most straight forward. The second is through winning territory. For every field card captured you deal 100 LP damage everytime you engage in combat. (So yes you can win the game by losing a battle).
