The ride back home - part 3

"Alright!" Kara claps her hands, sitting over Agis' lap again. Maggie still red-faced, her hat pulled down and comically covering half of her head, preventing her ears from listening to the wolfgirl's terrifying words. "Wolf people are scattered all over the forests of Midorn. There are tons of small dens, where the alpha lives with his family and his servants."

To be honest, the wolf talk is still a bit uncomfortable after what happened to your father. You gaze at Mathilda, she seems as fazed as you... Still, it wasn't Kara's fault... You don't even know if wolves were the ones that killed him, after all. That's what you were told, it was the most logical conclusion, but... who knows.

"At the start, in my den there was just me, my father, and the wolves that followed us, like Rocko and Ollie... My mother got sick and passed away when I was very little..." Kara sorrowfully talks, fiddling with her fingers. "And years later, when my father grew old, he left... Tradition dictates that the alpha should spend his last years hunting and exploring as much of the outside world as possible instead of staying locked up in a cave."

"That sounds weird..." Lola says.

"Well, those are our traditions and we must follow them." Kara answers, faintly smiling. "But yeah, it is a bit weird... I don't know why an alpha isn't allowed to enjoy his last moments with his family..."

"And do you know if your father is actually... dead?" Agis softly asks.

Kara shrugs, looking back over her shoulder at the elf's face. "Probably? I don't know..." She deeply sighs. "Anyways. I was alone in a den full of wolves without a leader, it was so stressful... I needed to find a new alpha... and Kakan appeared."

Her small nose scrunches as she remembers her ex-husband, brow furrowing. "He came from a nearby den to ask for my hand in marriage, he brought a lot of offerings. He seemed... fine, I guess? And I was very lonely... so I accepted."

"But we never truly loved each other, he... he didn't have a good heart. I just needed someone to occupy a position, and he really wanted to be the alpha of a den... I was very unhappy... I'm so glad you found me, my king~." She looks in your direction with a happy, playful smile and huge, lovey-dovey sparkly eyes. You smile back, stretching your arm to gently caress her cheek, the puppy purrs at your touch.

"Is she done?" Maggie pulls her hat upwards, feline ears peeking from under it again.

"Uh-huh." Kara rapidly nods. "You can keep listening now, best friend!"

Maggie embarrassedly rolls her eyes, pursing her lips.

"Uhm... since we are talking about our life stories..." Agis suddenly starts talking, nervously clearing her throat. "I really trust all of you, so I think I must finally reveal this..." She takes a deep breath before her confession. "I'm actually a princess. My-"

"Y-yeah, Ag. We know." Mathilda interrupts the elf, awkwardly smiling.

"W-whu... What?!"

"You told me that time you got drunk and I carried you home. Remember?" You say.

"...I did?"

"And you talk in your sleep. A lot. So the rest of us ended up finding out about it the first night we all slept together..." Lola tries to stifle a chuckle.

"...Really?"

"We were tryin' to be nice, so we avoided tellin' ya 'bout it, pointy ears..." Rhea rubs the back of her neck.

Agis seems dumbfounded as she silently processes all of this. Long expressive ears slowly lowering themselves in shame. "Oh. Well, that's... " She stutters, before sighing and holding the bridge of her nose, cheeks flushed. "...that's embarrassing."
