Chapter 12 by RandyLahey RandyLahey

What happens next?

The next day

The rest of the night was fairly uneventful, with some light teasing by Hailey about the girl you had been with. You had tried to find her but couldn't, and no one you had talked to seemed to know who she was. You had a feeling that that wouldn't be the last you would see of this mysterious woman, but you couldn't be sure.

You couldn't spend too much time thinking about this, though, as you had other priorities this morning. Today was the first day of football practice, and you had to meet with the quarterback's coach before practice. Quickly, you got yourself ready, throwing together everything you needed for the day in a bag and grabbed a couple of protein bars on your way out the door for breakfast.

You made your way to the practice facility and knocked on the QB coach's office. "Come on in," yelled Coach Johnson. You had met Coach Johnson once when you were being recruited by them post-surgery, but not since then other than a few texts to check up on your rehab and workouts.

You walk in the door, and immediately, coach jumps up from his seat to come over and shake your hand, "Jake, it's great to have you here. We're very excited to have you on our roster."

"Thanks, coach," you say enthusiastically, shaking his hand. "I'm very excited to be here too and excited to help the team in any way that I can."

"That's great to hear, how's everything doing? Did you settle into your dorm okay?" he asked you.

"Yes, everything has been good, met some of my floormates and settled into my dorm okay," you respond, declining to elaborate about the party you went to with them last night or the girl you got a blowie from, for obvious reasons.

"That's good, I'm not a man for small talk so let's get down to business," Coach said, taking a more stern tone in his voice. "As you know, we have senior Lloyd Caldwell returning, who will be our starter this year and sophomore Alex Beard on the roster already. We plan on having Alex backup Lloyd and assuming no injuries or anything else you'll redshirt the year and keep a year of your eligibility and then have you compete next year for the starting job."

"That makes sense," you say although slightly disappointed, you had assumed you would be given the opportunity to compete for the backup job this year but were basically told you didn't have much option and possibly be Alex's job to lose as the starter next year as well. But either way, it wouldn't stop you from trying to make it a competition nor from having all the good times you would have off the field at parties and fucking chicks.

"With that settled, I assume you have studied the playbook and are ready for a good first day of practice," he says.

"Thanks, coach," you say before heading out and getting yourself ready for practice.
