Chapter 2
by Monalott
Introducing
The new tribe
It felt like that had happened only yesterday and an eternity ago. Still so fresh a memory yet so much had happened since and now here I am, a part of another group of survivors and considered a priest of sorts now that I have my Mommas gift of sensing when Hellspawn are near.
There's only about twenty of us at the moment but we have a bible, a real bible, Momma used to speak of them with such reverance, and I'm it's keeper. Lord Bam is our leader, our Lord and Saviour. He's the darkest, biggest and strongest man I ever seen with bright blue eyes and I'd mistaken him for a Hellspawn when he had saved me from the feral men who had tracked me after slaughtering my tribe.
I remember Momma had always told me things, like how the old Gods son had be reborn to forgive us our sins and lead us on a journey that would take the faithful and repentant to eternal salvation and like how you had to be searching for him before he could find and rescue you. Lord Bam is tall and broad with a muscular body that looked almost inhuman he had killed every last one of those feral men with his bare hands as they had pinned me down, finding me and rescuing me while I had been searching for him. Then he had pulled me up out of their corpses and just held me tightly until I stopped shaking and then told me he would take me on a journey that would lead to my salvation
I was so greatful and was so enamored by my saviour that I told him about my gift my Momma had passed to me from the old God, and immediately after witnessing it for the first time Lord Bam raised me up from his flock and made me Priestess, just as my Momma had been, and the keeper of his Bible.
Then there are his two attentative concubines Trisha and Star, both petite, slender and beautiful with the palest skin. I would've thought them sister if not for Trishas long red fiery curls and big green eyes that sparkle as brightly as Bamets shine and Stars eyes as dark as polished cole and her raven black hair so long and straight that it falls all the way down her back without a single twist or tangle. They have welcomed me like a little sister since Lord Bam made me his priestess and they taught me how to read His Bible so I might become better at my duties. Their tongues can be sharp and they definitely rule our roosts, even getting Lord Bam to acquiesce on the rare occassions they speak in unison.
Then you have Lord Bams three acolytes. Mick, Trent and Sil are triplets by birth, all three tall and athletic and identical in every way except for their personalities and Sil being a girl. Mikey knows how good he and his brother are and boasts about it and Trent is confidently reserved in his demenour, while Sil is a controlled measure of both. The three of them are blue eyed, though with little brightness and have wavy dark hair that falls about their shoulders. All three share a pair of docile yet devoted concubine women, unremarkable in their appearance when compared to the splendor of the Chiefs wives and Sil.
Then there's Giles, probably the oldest of us all, yet does only as he's told and never speaks, never looks up. A tall man who looks sickly gaunt yet he is nearly as strong as Lord Bam.
Finally the rest make up Lord Bams flock, nine or ten survivors who Lord Bam found and saved long before finding me, during his everlasting journey to salvation and drew them along with him. Few standout among them save for timid Tiff the girl who was going to be priestess before Lord Bam found me and now serves as bible scribe and Jimmy, a brash youngster that follows Mick around in the hopes of becoming like him and full of hero worship. The rest, though seeming to wallow in and out of dispair at their dire existance and believe in and follow Lord Bam in hopes of salvation. Held together by our faith in the teachings of His bible, our rigorous hierachy and the protection Lord Bam and his Acolytes afford us, we migrate through the ruined city of my birth, settling when we find refuge and moving on again when resources fail or Hellspawn intrude upon us. Despite all this the flock are just skittering prey for the Hellspawn sheparded by Lord Bam but our camps tend to be relatively safe from beasts and other people that seek us harm.
