Chapter 24 by Dandyman Dandyman

What's next?

The necromancer

The strange figure standing on the sarcophagus seemed to notice our presence. They stopped their chanting and addressed us.

“Who-who disturbs my ritual?” They sounded nervous. Maybe at the prospect at being caught performing necromancy.

The undead shuffled in place, they had no eyes, but if they had, they were looking at me and Elle. The main weakness of an undead was fire, which we had. If a fight was to occur, we had an advantage. With only ten undead, I felt confident at defeating them easily. The biggest problem with undead, is if there are dozens the vast numbers could overwhelm you.

“Are you what I think you are?” I asked.

“I, am a necromancer!” They proudly declared.

“Well, we’re going to have to stop you.”

“Nuh-uh!” They said, wagging a finger at us. “Necromancy isn’t illegal.”

What? Did they just ‘nuh-uh’ us?

“Oh, I think it definitely is.” I confirmed. I felt like I was talking to a child.

“It isn’t!” The necromancer squealed, stamping their feet on the sarcophagus. “Necromancy is only illegal if used for nefarious purposes. Such as killing a living being. Or, covering your shift at work.”

I don’t know whether they were joking or being serious.

“Anyway, you didn’t answer my question.” They cleared their throat. “Who-who disturbs my ritual?” Their attempt to sound intimidating failed. They sounded just as nervous when they first spoke.

“My name is Ellanor, and this is Fen.” She introduced us. “And you can’t just dig up dead bodies, and do this to them,” said Elle addressing the undead around us.

“But-but-but I have to.” They sounded on the verge of tears. “I need to do this.” I’m sure it was a woman underneath that skull mask.

Dropping to their knees, the necromancer started to cry, with a very feminine wail. Yep, definitely a woman.

“I can’t take this anymore. You’re right. This isn’t the way to bring them back.” With a flick of her wrist. The undead dropped to the ground, some breaking and becoming dust as they made contact with the earth below.

The necromancer stood back up and threw off her heavy cloak and skull mask to reveal a beautiful human woman. She had light brown hair that reached to the small of her back. Her eyes had the colour of the ocean, but also were red and puffy from just crying, but despite that, she still looked cute. She wore a skintight robe that showed off her figure. She was a woman with curves. She wasn’t as curvy as Ellanor, but she wasn’t far behind. Getting a good look, the robe didn’t leave up much to the imagination. She had an impressive bust, with big hips. An hourglass figure. I wanted her to turn around so I could see her ass. As if she could read my mind, she turned her back to us.

“Don’t look at me,” she cried. My eyes locked onto her rear. Oh yes, she had a big fat ass.

“Look, we don’t know what’s going on her. But you tell us, help us understand?” Said Elle.

The necromancer turned back at us. Sniffling.

“I just wanted to bring them back. But whatever I try. It doesn't work.”

“Bring who back? What dosesnt work?”

“My family!” She yelled. “I read the black books of necromancy to bring them back. But it didn’t work the way I hoped it would. They came out as corpses. I thought, did I do something wrong, so I tried again, and again. But it all happened the same!”

She told us that her mother and father died two years ago from a plague. She was so distraught that she turned to necromancy to revive them. But it didn’t yield the results she wanted. They were buried here in the graveyard. Two of the undead we saw must have been her parents. She had avoided the spectres here to find her mother and fathers’s grave but when she performed the ritual, they came as back, but as undead. She didn’t fully understand that necromancy Dosnt give someone true life from ****.

“I just don’t get it. My ritual worked on my cat. Look!” She jumped down behind the sarcophagus and presented us an orange tabby cat. It greeted us with a meow.

She petted the cat. “Her name is Smittens. She died a few days ago, but I used necromancy to bring her back. And she’s still the same as before she died. That’s why I thought that I had perfected it. That’s why I tried to bring my parents back.” She cuddled Smittens.

Maybe necromancy worked differently on animals than on humans. Or did it have something to do with the time, when decay had set in. She did explain her parents died two years ago.

“What do I do now. We’ve nowhere else to go.”

“Maybe you can come with us, we can help you.” Elle proposed.

Her eyes lit up. “Really? I swear we won’t be any trouble.” She ran towards us. “All I wanted was my parents back. I didn’t want any of this.”

We found out that the corpses that were dug up by her would not turn into spectres due to the necromancy. At least we didn’t have to worry about that. We helped her bury the remains of the undead.

“My name is Rhiannon by the way. I swear you won’t regret accepting me.” She beamed at us.

That’s how the necromancer, Rhiannon joined our party. And an orange tabby cat called Smittens.

Ellanor-pov
