What's next?

The naked duo sneak into a convent

So, I’ve learned the hard way that there aren’t that many little things to cheer you up when traipsing the rough Italian countryside. After losing the batle of the vineyard, we are now following a grassy path towards whatever it might lead us. We dare not stray from it because the stone is hard in the surrounding ground and mountains are full of annoying little pebbles. I’ve already stepped in enough of them for a lifetime, thank you very much.

But, I think I see a silver lining. At the end of the very annoying mountain path, there is what looks like an old stone building somewhat reminicent of a castle... Wait, that’s a convent! A convent is bound to have tunics! It’s also bound to have nuns, who I don’t think would appreciate two naked tourists trespassing on their home, but it’s too good of an opportunity to pass up.

Double luckily, it’s Sunday! Which means that most of the clergy inside will be busy attending mass. The convent is an old stone building that reminds me of a medieval castle.

There isn’t any sort of guard, because who would rob a couple of nuns in the middle of nowhere? Once the coast is clear, we move in. We sneak gingerly into the courtyard. Both Laura and I are half crouched, walking on our tiptoes and sticking to the walls as we search for some leftover laundry, maybe even pocket cash as well.

“Damn, not this one,” I said, opening the first door I saw, it lead to a well-stocked kitchen. The nuns were preparing pizza for dinner. It smelled delicious, but it was not what we were looking for. “Let’s turn around and… Laura, what do you think you are doing?”

Laura had made herself at home and sat at the table, each hand holding two slices of pizza. “What? I’m tired of eating berries and fish,” she said, munching on her meal.

There was little chance to convince her to turn around, and I kind of agreed. It’s true that we hadn’t got hungry in our adventure since we both know a thing or two about wilderness survival, but It would be nice to have a properly cooked meal and not something we hunted or foraged. “Ok, fine. But let’s make this quick. We don’t have much time to lose”

What happened next… it was not quick, it was not pretty either. I’m afraid that my time away from civilization awakened my inner animal because we devoured everything in that kitchen like a pair of hungry coyotes.
