Chapter 14 by Washotep Washotep

What's next?

The morning after...

Cinder awakens at the break of dawn curled up next to Ruby. Cinder kisses Ruby on the cheek, gently snuggling her to meet the beckoning daylight.

"Good morning Ruby," Cinder greets.

"Good morning Cinder," Ruby answers.

They both spring to alertness, sitting up while leaning against the head of the bed. Cinder is not in a hurry to leave, allowing them time for small talk.

"How are you feeling today?" Cinder asks.

"A little sore..." Ruby replies.

"Yeah, that happens... Listen... Don't let anyone shame you for what we did last night. You're an adult and you can make your own decisions on what to do with your own body."

"Do you think that in another life we could have been something special?"

"We are something special! But I understand what you mean... I have never been a fan of long term relationships. Attachment would slow me down. I want to be strong. I want to be feared. I want to be powerful. Maybe another version of me wouldn't mind..."

"Our kids would be beautiful."

"Definitely! That's for sure!"

"How does Cinder Rose sound to you?"

"...a lot better than Cinder Fall."

Cinder gives Ruby a kiss then walks to take a shower. Ruby watches some news until Cinder calls her to take a shower after she is done. When Ruby emerges from the shower, she finds Cinder wearing another red dress. It was the same red dress as the woman she encountered the night of the From Dust till Dawn robbery. Cinder is the one who began Ruby's journey to becoming a huntress early by making Glynda come to her aid. The one that got away...

Cinder asks Ruby how she likes her coffee, popping her out of awestruck pause. Ruby says with lots of sugar. Cinder makes Ruby some coffee and gives her the morning after pill with it. Ruby changes into the spare clothes she brought with her once she finishes her cup, knowing that it is time to say goodbye.

"I'll miss you..." Ruby says standing hand in hand with Cinder.

"One thing before you go," Cinder replies.

Cinder drops to one knee, removes one of her anklets and fixes it around Ruby's leg. She stands, taking a deep breath while taking Ruby's hands.

"I want you to keep my anklet. Something to remember me by. That way, part of me will always be with you," Cinder says.

"Goodbye, my love..." Ruby says with tears in her eyes.

Ruby embraces Cinder one last time before leaving the hotel room and shutting the door behind her.
