The letter of apology
Merel and Sanne walked down the long hallway to Mr. Visser's match classroom. The classroom smelled of dusty chalk and old books. Mr. Visser, a gaunt man with a perpetual frown and a bow tie that seemed too tight, was already standing behind his lectern. His eyes, two dark pinpricks, registered their entrance. Merel and Sanne took their seats.
"Last week, I sent an email asking if you boys and girls would like to do assignment 1 from chapter 1." Visser announced, walking along the rows.
When he stopped at Sanne's desk, she hesitated. "I didn't do it, sir."
The silence in the classroom thickened. Visser's frown deepened. "Not done? Negligent already on the first day, Miss Lux? That shows a lack of respect. For the subject, for me, and for yourself."
Merel's heart pounded in her throat. She felt the familiar anxiety for her friend creeping up.
"You will write a letter of apology," Visser said, his voice like a sharp knife. "One page long. You will do it now, immediately. You will hold the paper against the wall, next to the blackboard. And when you are finished, you will read it aloud to the class."
To Merel's astonishment, Sanne reacted with a laugh and a casual "Fine, sir." She snatched her notebook and a pen from her desk and walked, with a light, almost dancing step, to the front. It was as if she was heading to a party, not a punishment.
But Mr. Visser wasn't finished. His voice cut through the room.
"With your trousers and underwear down, Miss Lux. Your backside towards the class."
A collective gasp of disbelief went through the classroom. Merel's eyes widened.
Sanne seemed utterly unfazed. She shrugged her shoulders as if it were the most normal thing in the world. With her back to the class, she unhurriedly unbuttoned her black trousers and let them fall to her ankles. A pink-and-white slip with little bears appeared. Some giggles erupted, mostly from the boys.
Then, almost defiantly, she pulled her slip down too. Her beautiful buttocks were now fully on display. You could still see the tan lines from her bikini bottoms from the sunny days in summer. A nervous laugh sounded, and to everyone's amazement, Sanne, instead of being ashamed, playfully wiggled her bare bottom. A broad grin played on her lips.
She's almost enjoying it, Merel thought, stunned. She's making a joke of it so it has no power over her.
Mr. Visser's voice boomed. "This is not a laughing matter, Lux! This is extremely serious!"
Sanne nodded with exaggerated seriousness, took a sheet of paper, and pressed it against the wall. She began to write, seemingly unperturbed, while her nudity was exposed to the entire class. Merel couldn't take her eyes off her friend. She felt a burning sense of shame, but also a strange pride. Sanne refused to be broken.
The lesson continued. Mr. Visser gave a long, boring explanation about differential calculus. Merel tried to pay attention, but her focus was constantly drawn to the silent, naked figure at the front of the class. After a period of independent work, Sanne raised her hand.

"I'm finished, sir."
Mr. Visser nodded. "Good. Then turn around now and address the class. Read what you have written."
Sanne turned around smoothly. Now her full front, her pubic area, was visible to everyone. A stifled laugh was heard. Instead of covering herself, Sanne glanced at the class and said with a mischievous grin:
"Nicely shaven, huh?"
The giggling grew louder. Mr. Visser's face turned red with anger. "One more joke, Lux, and you'll be standing like this for every class in this school for the rest of the week!"
Sanne's grin faded a little, not out of shame, but more out of annoyance at the thought of the tedious repetition. "Yes, sir."
She raised her sheet of paper and began to read. Her voice was clear and full of confidence, as if she were reciting a poem and not a **** apology in a humiliating position.
"Dear class and Mr. Visser," she read. "I apologize for not completing my homework. It was irresponsible and demonstrates a lack of discipline. I will strive to improve this in the future. Sincerely, Sanne Lux."
The words sounded hollow and meaningless, but they fulfilled the requirement.
"Good," Mr. Visser sniffed. "You may get dressed again."
Sanne pulled up her slip and trousers with the same casual elegance with which she had taken them off. Right at that moment, the bell rang. As if the universe itself was giving her a standing ovation. She walked back to her desk, gathered her things, and winked at Merel.
"See?" she whispered as they walked into the hallway. "It's just a body. If you don't mind, nobody minds."
Merel looked at her friend, at the fearless look in her eyes, and wished she possessed even a fraction of that courage...

Merel's School Year
A Story about Conformity, Shame, and the Price of Obedience
The story takes place in a world much like our own, but mostly within the confines of the Radbound College, a school where archaic and invasive disciplinary measures are the norm. This culture of strict punishment and absolute compliance extends beyond the school grounds, permeating the students' extracurricular activities and part-time jobs. Story rules:
