The girl i meet in train
The local train was already moving when I stepped into the compartment. Most of the seats were taken by people who had boarded earlier; the only open place was beside a girl at the window who had her backpack between her feet and a thick textbook open on her lap. She looked up once when I sat, gave the small polite nod strangers give on evening trains, and went back to the page. Loose blue T-shirt, thin enough that the shape of her chest shifted when she breathed. Black pants. Student lanyard still around her neck. The kind of face that stayed careful even when she was concentrating—only daughter, I decided later, the one who still texted her mother when she reached the station.
For the first half hour she stayed awake. Highlighter moved in short, even strokes. Every so often she tucked the same strand of hair behind her ear and then forgot it was there. I watched the way the T-shirt rode up a little when she leaned forward, the narrow strip of skin above the waistband of the pants, the way her free hand rested near her collarbone as if she were keeping herself from fidgeting. When the train rocked she steadied the book with her palm. I took the first picture then, angled so the screen light wouldn’t catch her eye: the line of her throat, the gap at the neckline, the textbook title clear enough that Rajesh would know the course. A second one when she shifted and the shirt slipped farther off one shoulder. A third, clearer, when her head finally tipped against the glass and the book began to slide.
I stood, walked to the space between cars, and sent the three photos. Then I called.
He answered on the second ring. Station noise behind him. I gave the details the way the arrangement required: second-year student, environmental science, sleeps with her mouth slightly open, no ring, backpack still has a school keychain, only-daughter carefulness in the way she holds the highlighter. He was quiet long enough that I heard an announcement on his end.
“Stay until her stop. Talk to her. If she gives the number, take it. I’ll be on the platform.”
She woke when the next-station announcement came through the speakers. Blinked, straightened the T-shirt with both hands, smiled the small embarrassed smile of someone who knows they drifted off in public. The book had closed on its own. I asked what she was studying. She answered—environmental science, second year, parents had wanted engineering but she had switched after the first semester because the labs felt wrong. Voice soft. Sentences that trailed off when she got shy. I told her I used to miss my stop the same way on the late trains. She laughed once, quiet, and the sound made the T-shirt move again across her chest. By the time the train began to slow she had turned toward me enough that her knee rested against mine. The making-out started there, nothing dramatic at first. Her mouth hesitant, tasting of the mint she must have eaten earlier. One of her hands stayed on my wrist the whole time, not pushing, just holding, as if she needed the anchor. I kept the kiss slow. When the doors opened she pulled back, cheeks warm, eyes a little wide, and gave me the number because I asked for it while her lips were still parted and she hadn’t yet decided she should refuse.
Rajesh was already on the platform in a clean shirt, sleeves rolled once, no tie. He looked at her once, then at me. I made the introduction the way he preferred: this is the senior who helped with the internship list I mentioned on the train. She nodded, still flushed. He offered to drop her closer to her hostel because the connecting bus was unreliable after nine. She hesitated only a second—long enough to glance at me, then at the ordinary way he stood with his hands in his pockets. In the car she sat in the back with me at first. Halfway there he asked her a question about the course she had switched into, and she leaned forward between the seats to answer, the blue T-shirt pulling tight across her chest when she did. By the time we reached the hotel entrance she had already agreed to come up for the spare charger he said was in his bag.
The room was ordinary. King bed, heavy curtains already drawn, a desk with a single lamp. He locked the door, set his phone on the dresser face-down, and told her, calmly, that the charger story had been enough to get her inside. Her eyes widened. She took one step toward the door. He didn’t block it. He only said, low, that she could leave if she wanted, but she had already kissed someone on the train and given her number, so she should decide whether she was still the girl who went home untouched or whether she was going to stay and find out what the rest of the night felt like. She stayed. The CNC lived in the space between those two facts—the open door she did not walk through, and the way her hands had already started to shake.
He had her on her knees first. The carpet was thin. She knelt awkwardly, student lanyard still around her neck, blue T-shirt still on. He opened his belt, pushed his trousers down just far enough, and guided her jaw with one hand while he started the recording with the other. The first minutes were clumsy. She didn’t know how much of him she could take. He told her to keep her eyes open and to breathe through her nose. She gagged once, eyes watering, and he waited until the spasm passed before he moved again. The phone caught the wet sound, the way her hands hovered and then settled on his thighs, the small choked noise she made when he held her there longer than she expected. When he came he kept her in place until she swallowed because he told her to; the recording picked up the soft, shocked sound she made afterward and the way she wiped her mouth with the back of her hand while still looking up at him.
Virginity took longer. He laid her on the bed, pulled the black pants and the plain cotton underwear down to mid-thigh, and worked her open with his fingers until she was wet enough that the protest in her voice had gone thin. She kept saying “I haven’t” in fragments. He answered each one by pausing just long enough for her to finish the sentence, then continuing when she didn’t add the word stop. The first full push made her bite her own wrist. He filmed it—the sharp inhale, the way her free hand clutched the sheet, the slow change in her expression once the worst of the stretch had passed and her hips began to make small, involuntary rolls. She said his name once like a question. He answered by fucking her through the rest of it, one palm spread flat on her stomach so she could feel how deep he was. When she came the first time she tried to close her legs; he held them open and kept the same measured pace until the shaking eased and she was breathing in short, open-mouthed gasps.
He let her drink water after that. She sat on the edge of the bed, T-shirt still on, pants tangled around one ankle, a faint mark already starting on her shoulder where his teeth had caught her. He checked the recording, trimmed nothing, then put her on her hands and knees. Doggy was harder. The headboard knocked the wall in a steady rhythm. She was already marked—teeth along her shoulder, a bruise forming on her hip from his grip. He recorded from the side so the phone caught both the arch of her back and the way she pushed back onto him even while she was still saying, voice muffled against the mattress, that she couldn’t take more. He fucked her through the words. One of her hands reached back at some point and held his wrist, not to stop him. She came again like that, face pressed to the sheet, the student lanyard swinging beneath her. He finished inside her that time, stayed buried while he watched the clip back, then pulled out and filmed the slow spill down her thigh before he told her to clean it with her fingers and show him.
They used the room until the light outside the curtains had changed from streetlamp orange to the flat grey of early morning. Between rounds he put her on her knees again whenever he wanted her mouth. She was better at it by the third time—less gagging, more of the small sounds he liked. He bit her along the ribs, the inside of one thigh, the soft place just above her hip. Each mark made her jolt and then settle. She stopped saying “wait” after the second hour and started asking, quietly, for the angle that let him stay deeper. He recorded pieces of all of it: her voice when the shy tone finally dropped, the way the blue T-shirt had ended up bunched under her arms, the moment she looked straight at the phone and didn’t look away while he fucked her. Near dawn he let her shower. She dressed in the same clothes. The T-shirt hid most of the marks; the pants hid the rest. He walked her to the lobby, gave her cash for the early bus, and deleted nothing from the phone.
I met her two days later because she texted the number she had given me on the train. We had coffee at a place near her campus. She was sore in the way she sat, a faint mark still visible above the neckline when she reached for her cup. She didn’t mention the hotel. I didn’t either. Rajesh had already sent me three of the clips with the single line: She’ll say yes if you ask her out. Don’t ask what she did. So I asked her out. She said yes, cheeks warm the same way they had been on the train. We dated. She still slept with her mouth slightly open. She still studied on trains. She still kissed like she was deciding something important. Sometimes, after, she would go quiet in the same way she had gone quiet in the room, one hand resting near her collarbone, and I would know he had already taught her the difference between the version of herself she arrived with and the version that left.
The arrangement held exactly as it always had. I had seen her. I had called. I had taken the number. He had taken everything else, recorded it, and then handed the rest of her back to me with instructions I already knew how to follow.
