Chapter 15 by Yabusa Yabusa

Is the game over, or is there still time left?

The game's over, and there's footsteps outside!

You tapped Felicia a few times on the arm, and motioned at the TV. "Arch, look, the game's over, when would--"

You and Archer both froze when you heard footsteps on the stars. The walls weren't exactly soundproof in these college apartments, and the stairs were creaky. It was a wonder that anyone ever got any sleep, with people returning from parties at all hours of the night. Still, that was enough of an advance warning for you two to scramble. "Shit, shit, not enough time to... augh, Jane, move your leg, I can't get up!"

The steps made it to your floor, while you were still untangling from Archer. She slipped her bikini top over her chest again and turned around so her back was to you. "Tie me up, quick! Quick..!"

Your fingers fumbled with the bikini string, made more challenging by the fact that Archer was still moving the whole time. She was fumbling with TV remotes and game controllers while you did your best to affix her bikini top to her body again. You managed a sloppy bow knot, right as you heard a key in the door. Archer turned to you quick, realizing your own swimwear was still down leaving your breasts exposed, and she hastily tugged it up over your shoulders again and shoved a game controller in your hands. At the very last moment before Donovan and Penny burst into the apartment, you and Felicia were seated next to each other, looking like you had been playing Fury Fighters all evening like properly irresponsible college students.

Don stepped over by the couch to watch you and Archer play a round, while Penny fished around in the fridge for something to cook up for a late dinner. "Didn't watch the game, Arch? It was... well, an embarrassment, you made the right choice." He paused for a moment, while he glanced at you and Archer. "Who's the new face? And why exactly are you two sitting around the apartment in swimsuits?"

"Lost a bet," Archer said simply, pretending to be focused on the game. Donovan simply accepted that answer without further questions since it felt like the most likely scenario if Felicia was involved.

"And your friend?"

You briefly nodded at Don, also pretending to be really invested in the match. "I'm John. ...I mean, I'm his, uh, I'm Jane."

Archer turned her head toward you agonizingly slowly to give you the deadest of deadpan looks, before she turns back to Donovan. "Yeah, she's John's ex, but it turns out she's in one of my biology classes and we're working on a group project now, so I wanted to, uh, get to know her better. You probably won't ever see her and John in the same room together, I guess it was a really bad breakup and do you remember when he was really sad for like a week and wouldn't talk to anyone? It was around that time, so it's a big deal, and I wouldn't ask him any questions about it or even really bring it up anymore."

That weeklong sadness was actually from when your pet turtle had died, but no matter. Felicia was concocting a stream of lies on your behalf that seemed plausible enough to cover your slip-up, although the truth wasn't exactly believable in the first place. The ex-girlfriend excuse was actually really convenient in a way, since it came with a built-in excuse why your two selves would never be seen together. Smart thinking on Archer's part.

After Felicia crushed you 2-1 in the Fury Fighters match, she paused the game. "I should probably walk her home, actually, since it's getting late. Don't want to interrupt your dinner, anyway!" She turned off the console, and you and her hurried off to get back into some clothes. You didn't bother with the bra and panties, the hoodie and pants over your swimwear was fine enough. You gathered up the rest of your clothes, and stuffed them in one of the shopping bags, as Archer came back out wearing some fresh clothes as well. Donovan had already lost interest in you and Archer's situation, instead petting the cat while Penny dumped some pasta into a pot. You and Archer picked up a couple bags each, and hurried toward the door.

Penny turned and waved a wooden spoon at you. "Nice to meet you Jane, we'll talk next time okay?"

You nodded. "Yeah, sure thing Pe--" you stopped yourself this time. For some reason, saying her name felt too familiar, like you were somehow blowing your cover by knowing too much about her. Even with other plausible scenarios like the basic fact that Felicia might just have told you her roommates' names. "Uh, sure thing. Bye."

You stepped outside, feeling like you were sweating all over again. There was something really weird, maybe even exhilarating, about pretending to be someone else right under the noses of two people you also consider pretty good friends. They had no idea you were you, and that was thrilling in the same way that you were like a spy one misstep away from being caught. You didn't know how well either of them would react to the truth though. They weren't like you and Archer, meaning they weren't utter doofuses who did idiotic things on a whim. They were fairly normal people, and your transformation is far too abnormal for them to accept, or perhaps even process. Either way, while the revelation of the coin's powers seemed to strengthen the bond you and Felicia shared, you were certain it would bend or shatter other bonds, and Don and Penny were no exception there.

As you and Felicia walked back to your apartment with bags in tow, your friend couldn't help but laugh. "Your cover story skills need some work, Jane. Maybe you were chosen by Emilia as a test to see how long it takes until you somehow blurt out your secret to the whole city. You're lucky that you're cute and also that I like you a lot like this and that I thoroughly enjoy swooping in to save the day."

"Yeah, yeah..." you unlock your door, and set the shopping bags down once more. After Archer does the same, this time it was your chance to make a move. You came up close to Felicia for one final kiss, and your initiative delighted her immensely. Knowing that the affection wasn't one-sided meant the world to Felicia right then.

"So, uh... I know we'll both be busy for a while. When can we meet up again like this?" Archer fidgeted a bit, trying to think about how to obliterate her school schedule to find more time with you.

You thought for a moment. "My plan was originally to do up to two flips a day, at least until the weekend. One random shot, one turn an hour later if I need to so I can be a guy for class. But also, if you come over in the evening then I can guarantee a change back to guy in the morning which might be really helpful. I am gonna need to do a flip-a-thon on Monday too, that's the day before tryouts. It would be way more fun if you were around for that, maybe? I probably need to flip all day to offset the magic drain for the next day so I don't lose too much for tryouts."

Felicia nods and smiles. "I'll see what I can make work. Have a good night, Jane." Felicia looks at the coin on the table one last time, before she leaves to head home. For the first time, you were truly alone with yourself and your thoughts for the future.

And what exactly does the near future hold?
