Chapter 3

Which card does she pick?

The first one. Cash.

Mercy eyed the images suspiciously. Money changing hands, a pretty girl in what looked like an old style of dress, and... was that a sex doll? Maybe it was just a naked woman with an O-shaped mouth. Either way, yikes.

In any case, with zero context, the only image that resonated with her in the moment was the cash. Payday was just around the corner, after all.

The other images faded away, making space for the chosen image to expand to fill most of the screen. Then it flipped around like a card to finally give her a little bit of information about what all was going on.

Mercy's eyes widened in surprise at the word displayed in bold print on her screen. 'Whore!? What? Because I like money?' It was one of her least favorite words; she found it very disrespectful, often derogatory. This app must have been someone's idea of a sick joke, and she was not amused.

But now that she had made a selection, the app released its **** grip on her phone. She immediately tried to delete the app, but simply couldn't. There was no option. She moved it off of her home screen, but by the time she was done, it was right back where it had started. "This is hopeless. Someone has really outdone themselves with this stupid thing."

At least now she could tap into the app and poke around, but there was precious little of note. There was a history that showed her one selection and a 72 hour countdown timer covering where a second selection would have been listed. There was also a "Trait Summary," which just repeated the information from the card.

Mercy scoffed. Hardly. It must have been some sort of bogus horoscope thing, intending to entertain and amaze simpletons. But that didn't explain how it got on her phone or why she couldn't remove it.

She'd worry about it later. She minimized the app and pulled up some messages from friends. It looked like they had all agreed to meet up as a group. That sounded like fun. Mercy shoved her things into her bag to go join them.

She caught a glimpse of her reflection in the dark monitor and frowned. Why did she look so washed out, and... boring? Probably just a trick of the monitor, or the prank app getting to her head. Her makeup was fine.

Where to?
