Chapter 16 by Lawless Lawless

What next?

The first day of the rest of his new life.

Putting the test-thing in one of his secure cases that he had hidden away, Izuku decided it was time to get ready for his morning jog. Pretty much not needing sleep left him with lots of time to keep up with his training. This in turn led to him being able to focus on school work when it came up, and not worry about falling behind.

"Alright, let's get out there." Izuku whispered as he walked through his apartment slowly, trying not to disturb his mother's fitful sleep. "Poor mom's been so out of it since she learned what my job was on top of going to school. When she suggested I get a job to take my mind off anything that was bothering me, I don't think that's what she had in mind." Izuku smiled sadly.

His mother had tried, he knew, to be there for him. But, with everyone thinking he was quirkless for so long, it must have been what raising a ch1ld with some horrible disease or deformity was like way back before quirks. And that wasn't even exaggerating, really. Quirkless people were not treated kindly, he knew from first hand experience. Plus his father not being in the picture for most of his life, though that was something that his mother wasn't willing to even discuss in the first place. Izuku wasn't sure if the man was alive or not, or what it was he did. All his mother said was that Hiashi Midoriya, who Izuku had no real memory of, worked across the sea and could breathe fire.

Which could have been the truth, or it could have been like telling a kid their beloved pet ran away when it died. His mother was surprisingly tight lipped about his father, for reasons Izuku couldn't really figure out for certain. Was the man a dead-beat, a run away husband, a divorcee or what? Was he a villain, or just a normal if wandering office worker, or a scientist or even a hero?

As Izuku reached the ground floor of his apartment building in his tracksuit, his mind pushed away almost all thoughts, focusing on his body as much as humanly possible. The super dense weight plates he had in pockets around the suit gave him some measure of resistance, as well as minor protection in case of gun fire. Really, it could probably be used to protect him from Shrapnel in case of a bomb or something if he really needed it.

Stretching to warm up his body, he tried to suppress his quirk as much as possible. It wasn't easy, trying to quash a quirk he'd only known about for around seven months, but all he wanted was the healing portion of his quirk to work. It would help build up his muscle strength, lung capacity and his stamina... though he really didn't need much more of the latter.

And so, with a goal in mind, Izuku ran as fast as he could into the dark city streets of Musutafu once again. He'd leave training his parkour and agility to the training grounds at school or in the wilderness.

Izuku arrived home that morning around five, after three non-stop hours of running around the city in heavily weighted clothing. While he felt fit as a fiddle, and his legs were still itching to run, he reeked heavily of sweat.

"Man, that was good!" Izuku stretched again, twisting his back around to pop it back into place with a satisfied sigh. "Though I'm gonna have to see if anyone in the support course can get me heavier weights. These ones are just about done being useful." Izuku carefully stripped the weights off and set them on his reinforced bed. Very gently, at that. Last time he tossed them, one bounced off and cracked the floor. Tossing the now weightless tracksuit into his hamper, Izuku grabbed a towel and headed to the bathroom, ignoring his phone that he knew had at least twenty texts on it by then.

"Last night, it was Ryuko. Tonight is Kaoruko's turn." Izuku thought what he'd need to set up for the blue-skinned sidekick. "Well, I need to stock up on bubbles for a nice bath for her. She does enjoy a nice long soak after a day working under Sir Nighteye. And maybe I can find a good movie to watch that we haven't seen before? She's been hinting that she wants to watch the fifth remake of the Lord of the Rings, which is supposedly the definitive edition." Izuku nodded in thought. "That's going to take us more than a few sessions to watch all seven movies though." Stepping into the shower, Izuku knew he was going to have to use some of his cash to get that delivered before he got off school, but he had cash to burn from his government stipend for his job. And since it was technically a public service, it was tax deductible!

Thank the gods for legal loopholes, he supposed.

"And then tomorrow will be Onemu, and she loves strawberries and a night spent drawing romantic scenes. I'll have to stop by the store on the way home, and I should have a few notebooks left." Izuku reminded himself of the Sheep-like woman of Team Idaten, whose quirk allowed her to distract people with illusions of sheep they felt compelled to count. While she hadn't put anybody to sleep yet, it was great in a group like Idaten, where there were a lot more people to augment such a good distraction into a takedown. Being coworkers with Enigma, Youki (Cheery) when not on the job, as well as Team Idaten's eyes in the sky sidekick, Mitsuku (Sky Light), who had a quirk that allowed her to react and process her thoughts faster the higher her altitude from sea level.

Izuku mulled over more things he needed to prep for His Girls as he cleaned himself, letting the grime of his light morning routine wash away. Thinking about school, while important, was second fiddle until he got there. There was a lot to plan when you were in a relationship like his, though he doubted anyone else could ever find themselves in his situation. "It's like, a once in a universal lifespan chance of happening, right?" Izuku laughed to himself, shaking the soap and water from his fluffy hair that never stayed down even with water or hair products of any strength.

But he knew from experience that at least a week of prep time for spending time with his girlfriends when he could was a big help. So that's why every Monday he started getting prepped for the rest of the week, even on Saturdays when he got to spend time with at least two of the girls.

Thoughts of such types continued to roll in his head as he stepped out of the shower, toweling himself off and stepped into the hallway. So used to being naked from the sheer amount of times he'd spent at the homes of His Girls (Their idea, not his, but at least it got him used to potentially embarrassing situations) he didn't even notice his mother frozen in mid step, face so red she could have been mistaken for an apple or tomato but intently staring at him as he'd forgot to keep a towel around his waist. Nor did he notice when his door handle rattled a bit as he shut his door, nor see the guilty look combined with a pout on her face as his door remained closed.

Breakfast was a quiet affair, as it usually was these days. Not needing so much food for his training anymore, Izuku was able to keep his meals light and stop putting so much work on his mother, who never once really looked at him beyond quick glances. Once again, this was normal for breakfast, though he didn't know why his mother was much calmer and willing to talk to him after school, usually before the girl of the evening arrived or he left for their place.

As Izuku stood in the doorway, putting on his shoes for school with his mother standing by to watch him leave. It was pretty much a tradition, one that his mother stood by even when she really should have been resting when she was feeling sick or otherwise unwell.

"Bye, mom, I'll see you after school today." Izuku gave his mother a tight hug, which she always eagerly accepted. "I've got some packages that should be here before I get back from school. One of them will be a boxed set of DVD's, so could you please put them in the living room? I gotta take them over to Bubble Girl's today. And I'll be stopping by the store to pick up some strawberries, is there anything else I should pick up?"

"Well, we need some milk, and if you can find some seafood on sale, I know that Sirius woman loves a good fish stir fry." She smiled at him, though in that sort of cracked way when she referred to his after school job. "I still have the ingredients to make the noodles from scratch, so that'll be easy enough, and vegetables I bought yesterday while I was at the market."

"Mom..." Izuku looked at her softly, smiling sadly. "You know you don't have to help me do my job if you really don't want to. I know how it makes you feel."

His mother sighed, shaking her head. "No, no. It's fine, Izuku. I know you have a lot on your plate already, it's no trouble, okay?" She tilted her head as she smiled a bit, though she jolted a bit and bit her lip. "Just get going, or you'll be late. You still can't use your quirk in public, so you can't just leap to school." She started pushing him out the door, which she opened with a twist and pull of her hand, and her quirk, on the door. "And Izuku?" She stopped pushing him when he passed the threshold of their shared abode to say one last thing, her voice low.

"Yeah Mom? Is something wrong?"

"I love you, you know?" She smiled at him, eyes watering in the way only a Midoriya's could.

"Yeah, I know." Izuku smiled at her, unknowingly catching the sun on his teeth as he did. "Love you too, Mom."

A few tears leaked down his mother's face as she closed the door, smile wavering. As the door clicked, his mother's usual nature of wailing whenever she cried, be it from happy tears or sad ones, started in, as unintelligible as his own.

Izuku sniffled, feeling his eyes begin to water in response as he ran out of the building, trying to hold in the Midoriya family waterworks to little avail.__

I know she doesn't approve of my job but she tries so hard to stay strong for me! He thought, trying to keep himself from turning into a blubbering mess like he always did when his mother started crying. Too much empathy, most of His Girls had said, but they also said it was a big part of why he was a hero already, usually with a soft kiss following suit.

It wouldn't be until he was on the train that someone pointed out his belt was undone.

Walking into the school left Izuku sigh in relief. "You know, despite all the crazy things that have happened since I started school, I feel really relaxed here. Maybe it's because..." Izuku took a deep breath, smiling as he exhaled. "Maybe it's because it's proof that I have a shot at my dream?" Yeah, that sounded about right.

"Hey, Class Prez!" A familiar voice called out to him, making him turn and wave.

"Hey, Kirishima-san, Ashido-san!" He called back, watching as the Red-haired boy and the pink-skinned and haired girl ran through the gate up to the door. "Cutting it a little close, aren't you?"

"Y-yeah..." Kirishima, usually known as Kiri, panted, shaking his head. "It's not our fault our trains take longer to get to this station, is it?"

"No..." Ashido, known more by her first name (Mina) than anything else, shook her head as well. "It... can't be. That's discrimination I tell you..."

"Alright, alright." Izuku laughed a bit. "Head on up to class. I have to meet with 2-B's class reps, and Yaoyozoru is probably already waiting for me." He patted both on the shoulders before giving them a gentle starting push in the direction of the stairs.

"Fi-ne..." Mina whined, pulling the hot-blooded friend alongside her. "C'mon, let's see if we can set up something to piss Bakugo off."

"Isn't she always pissed off?" Kiri asked as they moved up the stairwell.

Izuku shook his head again with a small smile. "Well, better go see what they wanted to talk about."

Where to?
