The drowners in the sewers

Drowners haven't given you much trouble in the past, and you are fairly confident you could take care of the problem yourself and take the entire sum. You pull off the notice and read the directions on where to find the poster. You aren't very familiar with the city but the instructions are clear so you make your way, asking locals if you are headed in the right direction when you get unsure.

Eventually you arrive at a large stone building that is separated into many units for each tenant. You approach the farthest one where the job poster said they would be. There is a buff man in leather armor sitting at a bench against the building, widling away at a stick. He looks up as you walk towards the door.

“Aye, lass. Are you lost?” The man grunts while eyeing your body and the dagger at your waist.

“I don't believe so. I'm looking for whomever posted this.” You raise the notice up to him and he barely glances at it.

“That was me. But what does a pretty lady like you want with that business?”

“I believe I can help with the drowners. I-” The man cuts you off with a hearty laugh.

“Did ya read the note girly? Says we need a group of able men, not some pansy noble woman.”

“As I was saying. I can handle a few drowners, trust me.”

The man is surprisingly taken aback by your confidence. You suspect he might actually be a seasoned soldier who can recognize a powerful person, regardless of their outward appearance.

“Listen. I've already got a solid crew, we only wanted a few cronies to lead the charge as it were. We don't want to baby sit some lady!” He stands up from his chair and walks to the door before pausing and looking back. “The entrance to the sewer they're in is under the western guard tower. We're going in at midnight seeing as the drowners might be resting then. If you truly think you can kill 'em then by all means. But if we find your corpse down there don't expect a funeral!”

The man enters the building and closes the door behind him. You need the money anyway but now you want to kill the drowners simply to prove this arrogant asshole wrong! You head to the tower he pointed out and find the gated entrance to the sewers.

You are without a staff so you won't be able to focus your magical abilities as well as normal, however a handful of drowners could be dispatched with a bit of flames. Plus you have a dagger in-case of emergency. You wonder for a moment if you should prepare for this more and run the risk of not killing the drowners before the crew gets there, or go in with no gear and hopefully guarantee you will get the full reward.
