What happens when the cops arrive?
The cops have a talk with everyone
It takes awhile for the cops to arrive since it's a low priority call and the noises from upstairs subside by the time they arrive. Ed and Cory tidy up a bit while they wait.
When they arrive Ed opens the door and lets the cops into the tidyish living room. The male cop is an average mid40s white guy with the beginning of a beer gut who looks around disinterested until he spots Cory. The female cop is younger, late20s brunette with an athletic build and hair tied back. She seems a bit more attentive.
The male cop shakes Cory's hand "I'm Officer O'Neill and this is my colleague Officer Dela Cruz"
Cory smiled at the policeman as she withdrew her and from hi grip "I'm so glad you could come to aid us."
Officer O'Neill smiled back at her "It's why we're here ma'am, to protect and serve."
"Do you remember us?" the female cop Officer Dela Cruz asked Ed. It takes a moment but he recognises them as the same cops from when his mom died.
"Yes, yes I do" Ed confirmed.
Officer Dela Cruz smiled reassuringly "We're sorry once again for your loss." She paused and then coughed at her partner. Officer O'Neill looked away from Cory and after a moment chimed in "yes, it was a terrible business and loss for a boy so young."
He turned back towards Cory "So this is not your residence?"
"No, it's his" Cory pointed towards Ed.
"And your relationship is...." Officer O'Neill enquired.
"Family friend" Cory replied.
"Ah, and you're single?" asked Officer O'Neill.
Officer Dela Cruz cleared her throat before Cory could answer "What can we help you with? When we got the call it wasn't clear whether this was a domestic disturbance or not."
Ed and Cory explained the situation to them. That this was his mom's house, she had died and he was an only child who presumably stood to inherit the house. The cops nodded along as he spoke.
Cory added that Idris had been his mom's boyfriend and had been living with his mom for a time while he had been travelling. The officers exchanged looks at this information.
Cory emphasised that Idris had not been paying any bills or rent before Holly died while Ed added that Idris hadn't definitely paid any bills since his mom had passed.
Ed skimmed over the comments Idris had made when his mom was alive along with the occasions Shauna had stayed. Cory detailed that walking in on Idris like they had which was the final reason why Ed wanted Idris out of his house. One of the things Ed didn't tell the cops was about the physical fight between him and Idris.
The cops clarified some details and Officer Dela Cruz went upstairs to speak with Idris.
Ed shook his head and asked Officer O'Neill "can you help me?"
Officer O'Neill stroked his chin "well... it's not easy. There's no probate yet and he has been living here so he has some rights. The not paying of rent might work in your favour but to be honest unless you feel your life is in danger then it might be a matter for the courts."
"That doesn't seem fair..." Cory protested.
Officer O'Neill replied sadly "unfortunately ma'am the law and justice don't always work hand in hand".
"There must be something you can do Officer" Cory pleaded.
"I assure you ma'am we'll do whatever we can to help you and your friend" Officer O'Neill stated in an attempt to reassure her.
Officer Dela Cruz soon returned looking annoyed with Idris and the blonde woman following her. Idris wore a pair of boxers and was still covered in sweat. The blonde woman had thrown on some clothes and was wearing Holly's bathrobe and clung to her lovers arm.
Ed and Cory exchanged a frustrated look when they saw this detail.
"Why are there cops inside my house?" Idris demanded.
"We have been informed you are a long term resident who has no official tenancy agreement and has been asked to leave" Officer O'Neill replied.
"The beautiful Officer who interrupted our pleasure mentioned something about but the thing is that this is my house" Idris replied.
"That's a goddamn lie" Cory stated.
"Let's all keep calm" Officer O'Neill reminded everyone.
"My deceased partner who I lived here with left me this place in her will..." Idris continued.
"Lies!" Cory protested.
"Ma'am, I realise this is an emotional occasion for you but I'm asking for you to remain clam" Officer O'Neill stated.
Ed paced back and forth in frustration as Cory stood with her arms crossed.
Idris grinned widely "the will is still being processed by the lawyers but it should be declared soon."
"How do you know this?" enquired Officer Dela Cruz.
"She told me, before she died that she was ensuring I inherited her estate." Idris at Ed "She loved me and wanted me taken care of."
Cory scoffed "you were a distraction, nothing more!"
Idris grabbed his crotch at her "you're just jealous she got all of this" he smacked his current lovers ass "and now this fine bitch is getting it instead of you. Don't worry though, I'll get to you when I can" he rubbed his hands "sometimes you got to let them bitches simmer, knowwhatI'msayin"
Officer O'Neill stepped forward "sir, please don't touch yourself in front of others without consent."
Idris raised his hands in surrender "aite, aite, I know you white boys all insecure and shit."
"And your current companion's name is?" Officer Dela Cruz interrupted before her colleague could respond. She asked pointing towards the woman clutching Idris's arm wearing a dead woman's bathrobe.
Idris looked at the woman and hesitated, "I want to say..... Babe."
The woman punched his arm "It's Kirsty silly!" Idris smiled at her and kissed her as he fondled her ass "you're my babe now!"
The cops exchanged another look, "and how long have you and... Kirsty known each other?" asked Officer O'Neill.
Idris looked towards the clock and replied smugly "Oh.... about three hours."
Officer O'Neill whistled softly, Officer Dela Cruz muttered "Jesus...", Cory sighed "slut!"
"You have got to be kidding me!" exclaimed Ed as he threw his hands into the air.
"No, I was working on the corner of..." Kirsty stopped as she looked towards the police officers "place of business where I work and we met." She shifted to stand further behind Idris.
Idris cleared his throat "that doesn't matter but what does is that I want this pup arrested" he demanded pointing at Ed "these perverts walked in on me blowing this bitches back out and stayed to watch. When I asked them to join us they started being all aggressive and shit. I had to throw him out of the room!" Idris elbowed Kirsty.
"yeah! aggressive!" Kirsty confirmed.
"And awhile back he assaulted me" Idris pointed to a small blemish on his cheek"he scarred me for life! I was going to let it go but he's given me ****!"
Officer O'Neill turned to Ed and asked "Is any of this true?"
"No sir" replied Ed ignoring any moral ambiguity.
"He's a liar, he wouldn't know the truth if it walked up and called him daddy" Cory commented.
"You know y'all want to call me daddy" Idris mocked.
Officer O'Neill sighed "I'm going to have to confer with my colleague" and the cops stepped out of the house.
"Who are these guys again?" Kirsty asked pointing at Ed and Cory.
"Don't worry about it babe" replied Idris as he gave her a squeeze "they're noting, just dust in the wind."
