The captain of the basketball team

You turn around and see Josh Martin, captain of the school's basketball team. He's tall, with sandy brown hair that always looks a little out of place in that perfect way. Every girl in school has a crush on him, but apparently he's dating Miranda now.

"Hey James," says Josh. "Hey, how are you doing on that chemistry assignment? I think we both needed the same book from the library, but I'm done with it now if you want it."

He's also, unlike some of the other jocks, a super nice guy.

"Uh, no, I think I'll do fine without it, Josh," you say, thinking that you can just use your powers to ace the assignment. Then you remember that you don't have your powers anymore, Miranda does.

Josh smiles. "Glad to hear it!"

He steps around you as Miranda stands up. He takes her chair and she sits in his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck with a school girl giggle.

Everyone at the table forgets you immediately, including Miranda. Your old friend stares into her boyfriend's eyes as he tells all their buddies about the latest fund raiser the basketball team is staging. After you stand there for a few seconds she glances up at you, but immediately looks back at Josh, pointedly ignoring you.
