Whom does Violet meet first?
The building manager, Old Man Oscar.
Violet pushed open the red, wooden entrance door and was greeted with the smell of lavender, someone perhaps burning incense? In front of her was a corridor with a staircase to the right and doors to the left as well as a door at the end of said corridor with its door left ajar, above it was a wooden sign that read "Managers office" which seemed like a good place to start. She pulled her luggage along the wooden floors and toward the door, poking her head inside once she arrived and looking around.
"Hello?" She spoke softly.
There was a rustling of paper from another door beyond the room and before long a figure appeared. Emerging from the doorway was an old man, he was ahead or so taller than Violet even with the slight hunch in his back and he would smile as he spotted the girl and quickly shuffle over to her with his hand extended toward her.
"Ahh, you must be Violet, correct? Always a pleasure to help out a youngster taking their first step into the adult world." He said raspily and gave a chuckle.
"Yes, that would be me. Thank you for helping me out!" She responded cheerfully, taking his offered hand and shaking it, glad that the old man seemed nice.
"Not at all, you aren't the first nor shall you be the last if I have any say in it." He said with pride.
Violet had indeed heard that a lot of people from the orphanage had been coming here over the years at the start of their adult lives, she could see why people recommended it as highly as they did, it was pretty outside and in and ran by a pleasant gentleman, what's not to love? The old man would release her hand and shuffle once again over to a board hung up on the wall, it had a bunch of keys hanging from hooks with numbers printed above them, he would pluck a key from one of the hooks and turned back to the girl, offering her the key.
"Room 15 shall be yours, you'll find it's been cleaned and furnished, albeit a little basic but I like the residents to have room to add their own personality." He chuckled.
"That sounds brilliant! I've heard there were some rules on pets also, for the future mind you but it would be smart to know as early as possible." She said, still excited about the possibility of her very own pokemon pet.
"Ahh yes, the rules are simple really. No pokemon over 3 foot in either height, width, or length... because some people love to find loopholes in the rules." He seemed to be recalling something irritating as he said that. "and nothing over 300 pounds, this building is sturdy but it's still old, older than me in fact." He laughed.
"Those seem fair," Violet responded. "I was thinking of something small anyway."
"Very good. Now, your rent has been paid up for the next three months as you know, so enjoy what little freedom you have, youngster!" He smiled. "Now, let ole Oscar show you up to your room." he announced.
With that the pair of them would move back to the corridor and head up the set of carpeted stairs, then would go up a second set to the top floor, there were three doors and the one furthest from the stairway was room 15. The old man would depart at this point, leaving the girl to explore on her own and get comfortable. She would open up the door to her room and would be greeted once again by a delightful scent as she saw a small candle burning away, giving a warm citrusy smell to the room. She would dump her luggage at the door after closing it and start to walk around, directly to her left upon entering was the kitchen with oak furnishings and black marbled surfaces and a small utility room to the right with a washer and dryer. From there she would step into the open plan dining room/lounge where a gift basket sat atop the dining table, it was a large room with a huge window at the end of it, looking out into the town. There were then doors to both the bathroom and the single bedroom both on the left-hand side of the room. Old man Oscar wasn't lying either, the place was very simply decorated but offered her everything she would need to get started living here.
She made her way back over to the dining table and checked out the gift basket, there was a note along with it that simply read;
"Welcome to Wedgehurst. We look forward to getting to know you.
- People of Wedgehurst"
Very sweet, they seemed like quite a tight, pleasant community. The basket itself was filled with various bits and bobs that would be essential for a person moving into a new home, salt, sugar, tea bags, some fresh fruit, toiletries, and a stuffed teddiursa to name but a few things. Then next to the basket were six glass bottles of pinkish liquid and a separate note.
"These are my old wife's secret recipe, Spicy Pecha punch! Hope you enjoy them.
- Oscar"
Violet was interested, to say the least, but she would rather try one cold since them being sat here at room temperature would perhaps tarnish the kind gesture and with that, the girl would proceed to spend most of her day unpacking and putting her things away in the appropriate places and trying her best to make a start on turning this house into a home.
What will Violet do now?
