The beginnings of your new life

Times are not good. Disease and hunger run rampant in the colony. You have not become victim to either, but even Mr. Winthrop's son has died of illness. The man himself works side by side with you and the other farmhands, like a common laborer. Despite their struggles, there is a certain inspiration in the colony. Under Winthrop's steady leadership, the colonists (yourself included) weather the storm of the first period.

The Puritans are a cold bunch, at least to you. Mr. Winthrop has opened up a bit to you out of familiarity, but the majority in the colony don't know you so well. You've started attending their grim services, as there is no other church around for many miles. You can now understand why they are they way they are, considering the grave warning and notions that dominate their sect. Their reservation is mirrored by the occasional small band of Indians who come to trade with the settlement. You have a hard time not staring at the exotic travelers, wearing bright feathers and thick fur clothing. The result of all of this however is that you feel rather isolated in this rough foreign land.
