The Mobile Suits of The HRL - -

The Unique Technological Advancements of... The Human Reform League [Technology]

NewType:

The NewType is The Core of The HRL's Military Technology.

The Word "NewType" was First used by Zeon Zum Deikun, The Founder of The Space Colony-Based Republic of Zeon. It was one of The Central Concepts in his Philosophy of Contolism, Which stated, Essentially that The Earth was not only Sacred, and that Human Beings had a Solemn Right to Protect It but that Mankind was Destined to leave it and live in Space, Where they would Reach a New Stage in their Evolution, called The NewType, A New Type of Human whose Latent Abilities would Awaken in order to Adapt to Life in Space which Requires The Body to make a Variety of Biological Adjustments. Zeon Zum Deikun believed The Coming NewTypes were meant to help The Rest of Humanity take their Rightful Place in Space and Guide them in becoming NewTypes themselves. Deikun Believed that NewTypes would Act as a Bridge to Lessen The Tensions that would inevitably result from The Colonization of Space.

The Theory of The NewType created Much Fear and Jealousy among The UEG (Unified Earth Government) and The Peoples of Earth creating Great Strain between Earth and its Colonies especially once NewTypes began to appear with increasing frequency among The Colonists.

HRL NewTypes:

The HRL Scientists Labored for Years to Harness The Power of The NewType for their own Ends leading to their Super Soldier Program which used Numerous Methods to Achieve it's Aims including Selective Breeding, Rigorous Mental and Physical Conditioning, and Genetic-Engineering. The HRL Newtype is a Genetically-Engineered Bio-Terminal Distinguished from Ordinary Humans by their Quantum Brainwaves which Grant them Incredible Focus, A Heightened Spatial Awareness which borders on a Sixth Sense, An Ability to Learn at an Accelerated Rate, and Greater Physical and Mental Range. They are capable of Empathically Detecting other NewTypes and are Sensitive to The Hostile Intentions Directed at them by Others, Allowing them to uncannily React to their Opponents even before they have a chance to carry out their Hostile Intentions. Though Rare, Some NewTypes also exhibit Telepathic Abilities or Psychokinesis. NewTypes often exhibit a Superb Ability with Machinery and Inherent Piloting Skill Thanks in part to their Engineered Status.

NewTypes as Soldiers:

Not long after The HRL succeeds in creating their First NewType Soldier, The Combat Potential of The NewType is Quickly Sought Out and Exploited by Every Branch of The HRL Military.

The NewType Mobile Suit Pilot's Ability to More Accurately Recognize The Combat Situation and other Newtypes from a Great Distance Spurred The Development of Various Technologies and Control Devices To Link with and Operate Remote-Controlled Weapons known as "Bits" and "Funnels," via their Quantum Brainwaves.

Other Systems even allow NewTypes to Control Entire Mobile Suits with The Power of Thought. This Equipment is Termed The Psycho-Frame System, and Machines installed with This Equipment Demonstrate Overwhelming Power in Combat.

HRL-Created NewTypes are Classified as Equipment and are viewed similar to a Computer's CPU. HRL NewTypes are reportedly Physically and Psychologically Altered through Surgery, Brainwashing, Heavy Mental Conditioning to Eliminate their Sense of Fear and Increase Aggression in Combat, Performance-Enhancing **** Like Gamma Glipheptin and Extremely Harsh Combat Training. They Even have Micro-Implants Embedded in their Brain and Glandular System. They are less stable than Natural NewTypes and require Regular Re-Conditioning, Especially when their "Block Words" are used to **** them to do something and Regular Physical and Mental "Maintenance" to keep them in a High-Performance State, and to erase any "Undesirable" Memories or Thought Patterns they might Develop.

Hormonal Readjustments and Alteration of The Chemicals to control their Brain Activity are also applied as well as a number of Physical Enhancements accomplished through **** and Cellular Treatments.

In The Modern Vernacular, NewType is Used More Commonly To Refer To HRL Laboratory-Bred NewTypes Than Those Naturally-Evolved As A Result of Life In Space.


Bio-Sensor:

The Bio-Sensor is A New Kind of Man-Machine Interface which Allows Machines to be Controlled by The Quantum Brainwaves of A NewType. As Its Name Implies, The Bio-Sensor is Similar in Structure to The Human Brain, and Its Operating Processes Resemble Human Thoughts and Emotions. Rather than Merely Displaying Data on a Computer Monitor, The Bio-Sensor can Relay it Directly to The Pilot in The Form of Sensory Information. An Unexpected Side-Effect of The Bio-Sensor System is that when The Pilot is Mentally and Emotionally Focused enough The Bio-Sensor was found to Actually Amplify The Power, Speed and Strength of The Mobile Suit for a Short Period of Time.

Composite Shield Booster:

The Composite Shield Booster is a Common Armament of HRL Mobile Suits. It is A Relatively Small Multi-Functional Shield that Synergistically Incorporates Both Offensive and Defensive Capabilities and can be used as Both as a Long-Range Beam Rifle and a Claw for Close-Range Melee Combat. It also includes a Multi-Layered Anti-Beam Coating (ABC), Targeting Sensor and an I-Field Generator, and Can Function as a Winch Unit. The Winch Unit can Operate as a Mobile Bit.

The Shield's Claws Unfold for Capturing The Enemy while a Beam Blade can be used to Penetrate The Captured Unit's Armor. The Shield Stores Up to 4 E-Pacs for The XBR-BOWA M-82A Beam Rifle, Prolonging The Rifle's Operation Time. The Shield Itself can even be Launched towards its Target thanks to Two High-Output Thrusters.

The Composite Shield Booster is Similar to those used by The Independent Congress of Neutral Territories but Greatly Simplified.

E-Sensor:

The E-Sensor is A Radar-Like Technology Developed by The Human Reform League to Combat The Minvosky Particle Interference caused by The Micro-Fusion Reactor of Mobile Suits. The E-Sensor is used to Detect Mobile Weapons and Other Objects, Debris and Potential Threats.

E-Sonar:

E-Sonar is a Special Underwater Sensor System that is used to Detect Objects Underwater especially Mobile Suits. In Such Environments, It is used in place of The E-Sensor. The E-Sonar System is a Combination of Polythermal Imaging, Acoustic Resonance, Electrical Impulse Detection, and Water Displacement Analysis.

External Propellant Tank/Thruster Units:

An External Tank used for Propellant Storage. The Extra Propellant Greatly Extends a Mobile Suit's Operating Range, and Enables it to stay in Combat Longer. When The Propellant is Consumed, The Tank can be Discarded to Reduce The Mobile Suit's Weight. These Tanks use a Two-Layered Construction, With One Layer Containing Propellant, and The Other Holding Extra Coolant. Several HRL Mobile Suits are Equipped with 6 External Propellant Tanks.

The Propellant Tank/Thruster Unit is a Combination of Large Mobile Suit-Use Fuel Tank with Rocket-Propelled Thruster Units Attached at The End. They provide Additional Fuel for Longer Deployment Times and Greatly Enhances Acceleration and Agility.

Fluid Pulse System:

The Joints of HRL Mobile Suits are Driven by a Fluid Pulse System, Which uses a Pulse Converter to turn The Energy in The Form of Minovsky Particles produced by The Mobile Suit's Reactor into Pulses of Pressure within a Fluid. Thousands of Fluid Pipes, Finer than a Human Hair, Transmit these Pulses at Supersonic Speed to The Rotary Cylinders which Drive The Joints. This System Yields a Far Greater Operating Speed than Ordinary Hydraulics, and offer a far Lower Weight and Greater Structural Simplicity than The Electric Motors previously used in Mobile Worker Technology. The Fluid Pulse System allows for Active Attitude Control and provides The Power needed to run an MS' Avionics and Life Support Systems, as well as The Actuators and Motors that control The MS' Joints.

The Fluid Pulse System was Designed by The Same Man who created The Micro-Fusion Reactor that Nearly All Mobile Suits Depend on... Namely, Dr. Trenov Y. Minovsky but The Plans were stolen by HRL Spies, The Prototypes Destroyed or Stolen, The Original Copy of The Plans Destroyed and with Dr. Minovsky Dead The HRL now have exclusive ownership of The Fluid Pulse System.

Gefjun Disturber:

A Gefjun Disturber is an Insidious Device created by HRL Scientists to Disable Enemy Mobile Suits. It does this by Disturbing The Chemical and Mechanical Processes of a Mobile Suit's Control Systems and Interior Computers and Gears preventing Movement. In Addition, The Field Blocks The Motion of Hadrons, Radio Waves, and Microwaves. The Union and The AEU have Developed Countermeasures that provide at least a Partial Defense against it. Aside from Potentially Disabling Enemy Mobile Suits, The Gefjun Disturber is used to neutralize Hadron and MVS-Based Weaponry as well as a Temporary Defensive Shield against Physical and Energy Attacks at Long Range. Though it has been a Tremendous Success on The Battlefield against The Union and The AEU, Its Range and Operational Time remain Limited.

HRL Engineers have Developed a More Practical and Mobile Version of it called "The Gefjun Net," Designed to be Deployed from Concealment and Dampen The Systems of Ensnared Mobile Suits. It has been reported though unconfirmed that The Linear Trains of The HRL are Equipped with Gefjun Disturbers as A Defense against attack by Enemy Mobile Suits.

Mega Particle Deflection System:

The Mega Particle Deflection System is Another Version of The I-Field Generator but allows HRL Mobile Suits to Redirect Incoming Beam Weapons Fire back to their source. The Mega Particle Deflection System is similar to The Protoculture Dependent Point Defense Barrier System used By Veritech Fighters to create small **** fields that could be moved around the surface of the craft either through computer control or from inside The Cockpit by The Pilot in order to block individual blasts during battle with Zentraedi Forces at The Time of The OverTech Wars.

The Mega Particle Deflection System uses an Array of Hexagonal Energy Shields that can be projected over any part of The Mobile Suit. It plots The Trajectories of Incoming Projectiles and Shifts The Shields Accordingly, Giving HRL Mobile Suits The Highest Defensive Power of Any Mobile Suit currently in use. The System requires incredibly complex calculations to form Effective Barriers and is Thus Only Accessible to HRL NewType Pilots and Their Advanced Computer Systems.

Multi-Purpose Latch & Mount System:

In Addition to The Normal Hardpoints, HRL Mobile Suits include a Latch System on their Shoulder Armor. Many HRL Mobile Suits are Designed with a Pair of Latches on its Front and Back to Secure a Drum Magazine for A 120mm Machine Gun. A HRL Mobile Suit's Carriage Capacity can be Doubled with The Installation of A Total of 8 Latches on their Shoulder to hold a Large Carrying Platform. With The Latch & Mount System, HRL Mobile Suits can Carry A Total of 4 Drum Magazines on its Shoulders, or a Combination of Other Weapons and Equipment to Suit its Operational Needs.

Optical Camouflage:

The Optical Camouflage System is a Cloaking System that uses an External Active Camouflage Membrane that Mimics The Look of its Surroundings to avoid Close and Long-Range Satellite, Infra-Red, and Visual Detection; It can be viewed as a Form of Invisibility and is used by The HRL to help protect it's Ships, Resource Satellites, and Especially it's Mobile Suits.

However, While The Optical Camouflage Allows HRL Mobile Suits to blend into their Surroundings it is far from perfect. It's only applicable when The Unit is Completely Stationary. Should The Unit move while Cloaked, The Optical Camouflage will Destabilize, Dispelling The Illusion.

The MS Engineers of The HRL have worked Diligently for Years to correct The Optical Camouflage Membrane's Flaws and it has been rumored that they have created a Highly Modified Gefjun Disturber with a Cloaking Effect. The Modified Gefjun Field not only Generates a Field that Blocks The Motion of Hadrons, Radio Waves and Microwaves But Bends Light around The Mobile Suit's Body, Thereby making The MS in Question Invisible to The Naked Eye as well as Most Sensors. If what The Union and The AEU suspect is true then with this Device, The HRL's Mobile Suits would be capable of literally slipping through Most Types of Early Warning Systems, allowing them to perform Hit-and-Run Raids and Surgical Strikes with Great Precision.

Psycho-Frame:

The Psycho-Frame was Developed for NewType Pilots and Allows a Mobile Suit to be Controlled by A NewType Pilot's Quantum Brainwaves as if it Were An Extension of their Own Body, Giving it A Greater Response Time.

The Psycho-Frame Technology Acts as a Brainwave-to-Machine Code Translator Allowing a NewType Pilot to Mentally Connect with their Mobile Suit's Operating System using a Series of Bio-Sensors, and Issue Commands Directly Affecting The Behavior of their Mobile Suit Through The Use of their Quantum Brainwaves. Additionally, While The System Directs The Suit's Movement When Active, It Does Not Completely Depend on The Pilot for Commands. Arguably, A Mobile Suit with a Psycho-Frame and NewType Pilot should be able to Outmatch Any Enemy Mobile Suit.

The Psycho-Frame is only operable to a NewType because it Depends on The Quantum Brainwaves of A NewType which Aren't Electrical In Nature but operate on a Quantum Wavelength which The Psycho-Frame Receives and Translates into Computer Commands Almost Instantaneously, Allowing "High-Mobility Co-Ordination" and Zero-Lag Time Reactions between Pilot and Machine, i.e. Controlling The Machine Without The Use of Any Conventional Levers, Pedals, or Manual Controls.

PX System:

The PX System Takes Advantage of The Increased Adrenaline of The Pilot During Combat by Increasing The Performance of The Mobile Suit to Match. The System also Strengthens of The Pilot's Abilities by Forcibly Increasing and Altering The Neurotransmission Speed of The Pilot's Brain. Prolonged use of The PX System will inevitably Burn out The Pilot's Nervous System.

Sub-Arm Unit:

A Number of HRL Mobile Suits are Equipped with One or More Folding Sub-Arm Units Attached to The Shoulders, Sides, Hips, Waist, Legs, or Back but Most Arm Sub-Units are equipped to The Primary Arms and Function as Extra Armor until they are ready to be Deployed.

The Arms are Folded and Stored inside The Sub-Unit when not in use and Deploy in Seconds Providing a Potentially Lethal Surprise in Battle. Sub-Arms are Designed to Serve as a Multipurpose Joint for Various Optional Parts Including Weapons and Equipment. The Arm Sub-Units are for The Most Part intended to be used to Wield Secondary Weapons like a Beam Rifle, Beam Sabers or Other Weapons, or To Replace Energy Packs when Both Main Arms are Holding Weapons or Other Equipment. The Sub-Arms can also be used to Destroy an Opposing Mobile Suit's Limbs Simply by Latching on to it, or To Capture and Restrain A Mobile Suit.

Sub-Arms are Much Slimmer than The Main Arms, with Only Three Fingers but The Output of these Arms is Comparable to The Mobile Suit's Main Arms, and can easily fire a 120mm Beam Rifle with Great Accuracy.

Each Sub-Arm Unit Can be Equipped with Some Combination of Sturm Fausts (A Simplified, Disposable Rocket Launcher), Beam Sabers, Beam Gatling Guns, Beam Machine Guns or Even A Compact Beam Rifle.

Despite The Effectiveness of The Sub-Arm Unit, The Complexity They add to The Mobile Suit's Fire Control means They Require a High Degree of Pilot Skill, So The System isn't Widely Adopted.

Trans-Am System:

The Trans-Am System (or Trans-Am) is a Feature of HRL Micro-Fusion Reactors.

Under Normal Operational Parameters, A HRL Minovsky Reactor Generates Minovsky Particles at a Preset Rate While The Excess Particles are Stored Inside Specially Designed Condensers. During Trans-Am, All of The Reactor's Accumulated High-Density Minovsky Particles are Compressed and Then Released, Enhancing The Suit's Thrust and Defensive Capabilities as well as allowing it to Perform at Three Times its Normal Output for a Limited Time.

However, While Useful or Even Decisive when used at The Proper Time, Trans-Am comes with Several Drawbacks that make The System a "Double-Edged Sword," Because Once Activated, Trans-Am Gradually Drains The Mobile Suit of Nearly All its Stored M Particles and Once The Unit's Minovsky Particle Supply is Depleted, The Suit's Performance will Drop Dramatically due to The Depletion of Most of its M Particles and The Pilot will be Left Reliant on a Small Supply of Reserve Particles in Order to Escape. The Decreased Performance will last until The Supply of M Particles within The Suit returns to Normal Levels, Thus Usage of The System Requires Careful Consideration.

The Activation Time Limit of Trans-Am is Short and Varies between The Different HRL Mobile Suit Models for Reasons that Remain Unclear but Those Witnessed to Date appear to fall between 90 Seconds and 3 Minutes. Another Drawback to The System is that should a Mobile Suit with Trans-Am Activated Suffer Any Damage The System Automatically Deactivates.

VARIS Rifle:

The Variable Ammunition Repulsion Impact Spitfire (VARIS) is a Special Armament Designed exclusively for Union Mobile Suits but Designs were stolen by an unknown Infiltrator and sold to Both The AEU and The HRL. Its Primary Purpose is to engage The Enemy in Long Range Combat. A Revolutionary Weapon Based on Naquadah-Enhanced Railgun Technology, and by changing The Configuration of its barrel (aka Impact Rail) between Normal Mode (Straight Beams) and Burst Mode (Spherical Burst Shots), It can Adapt The Repulsion **** applied on The Projectile to suit Any Combat Situation. The only known Defensive Mechanism that has successfully taken a Direct Hit at Close Range and Survived a Normal VARIS Shot is The Luminous Blaze System. It is a Firearm with Extremely High Capabilities and Requires a Highly Skilled Pilot with Excellent Marksmanship Skills to perform at its Full Potential. The Rifle is intended for use in Various Stances and The Bipod attached underneath its barrel can unfold to allow firing from Prone Positions, Kneeling Positions, etc. It can be mounted on the right shoulder when not in use.

This AEU have created a Vastly Improved Version of The Rifle which includes Two Barrels, One which serves as a Machine Gun, and a Second Firing High-Powered Shots. These barrels can also separate to reveal a Hadron Cannon.

The HRL have been Developing A Long-Range Super Substratospheric Version of The VARIS Sniper Rifle with High Altitude, Super Long-Range Sniping Capabilities. The Current Prototype has enough Range and Power to Destroy a Mobile Suit with a Single Beam Shot from far outside The Enemy's Sensing Range. While Powerful enough to Destroy Targets in Satellite Orbit from The Ground, It lacks Rapid-Fire Capabilities requiring 20 Seconds to Charge after Each Shot. To Suppress The Recoil when firing, It is necessary for The Mobile Suit in Question to be outfitted with Shock Anchors, Wherein The Pilot can anchor Themself in Position by Deploying Retractable Impact Bolts from various parts of The Suit's Body.

  • Sniper Mode (HRL Mobile Suits Only): During Precision Shooting with The VARIS Rifle, The Mobile Suit equipped with it changes to Sniper Mode, Where the top of the head rises slightly to reveal The High Precision Gun Camera mounted in The Forehead. It is utilized together with The Rifle-Shaped Precision Shooting Scope mounted in The Cockpit's Ceiling. This Scope not only displays images from The Mobile Suit's Long-Range Firearm but also serves as a controller for The Weapon and provides better Shooting Accuracy then Normal Control Sticks. Overall, The Gun Camera and Precision Shooting Scope are Designed to take Full Advantage of a Pilot's High Marksmanship Skills. During an Emergency, The Scope can be removed from The Cockpit and attached directly to a Weapon to operate The Mobile Suit's VARIS Rifle by Remote.

Note: While The VARIS Rifle Is Used By The Union of Solar Energy and Free Nations, The Advanced European Union, and The Human Reform League, It Is The Human Reform League That Has Refined It To Its Highest State Which Is Why It Has Been Placed Here Instead of In "MS Technological Elements Common To The Three Primary Powers."

ZERO System:

The Main Feature of Most HRL Mobile Suits aside from Their use of Bit Technology, Is The ZERO (An Acronym for Zoning & Emotional Range Omitted) System, An Interactive High-Performance Combat Computer/Pilot Interface installed in The Cockpit. The ZERO System Connects Directly with The Mind of The Pilot, flooding Him or Her with Combat Data and Possible Outcomes. With Enough Information, The ZERO System is able to create Near Flawless Probability Assessments by Cross-Correlating both Stored and Acquired Combat Data which are Accurate to Within Two Decimal Points, Allowing The Pilot to Intuitively Plan, Analyze, and Act with Absolute Efficiency without Conscious Thought or Effort, Executing The Optimal Solution Automatically in Any Situation.

The System is not only immune to Minovsky Particle Interference but Capable of Learning from Previous Experience and Rewriting its Own Programming to Deal with New Situations, Essentially meaning that Each Battle increases The Mobile Suit's Combat Ability and Ultimately Enables it to operate itself.

The System is Pre-Loaded with Information on Mobile Suit Specs and Thousands of Enemy Pilots, and is updated regularly. The Data Gathered in The Field is Stored for Future use against The Same Enemy and so that it can be Analyzed by HRL Engineers for The Development of New Armor, Armaments, and Other Mobile Suit Technology. Thus, Keeping The HRL One Step Ahead of their Enemies.

The ZERO System though Remarkable is Unfortunately not without it's Flaws:

  • The System can only Track and Analyze Five Targets at Any Given Time.
  • The System Requires at least Three Minutes of Analysis unless it has Data on the current opponent stored in it's Memory Banks.
  • The Overload of Data which continuously bombards The Pilot while The System is in Operation places An Enormous Mental and Emotional Strain on The Pilot which can lead to **** Mental Instability or Even ****.

The HRL's ZERO System is Similar to The Inferential Navigation Control System (ICN), More Commonly known as a "Learning Computer" used by The Veritech Fighters of The Former USDF (United Space Defense ****) to Combat The Sinister AI-Driven I-Weapons of The Global Sedition.


In Conclusion, Virtually Everything About HRL Mobile Suit Technology Is Designed To Push HRL NewType Pilots To The Limit of Mental and Physical Performance, and Keep Them At Peak Operational Levels For As Long As Possible. Is It Any Wonder That Their NewType Pilots Burnout So Rapidly?
