The Story

“Well one of the things I liked the most about your act when you first explained it to me was the story. There’s this housewife and she has to be respectable and presentable in public. She loves her husband, too, so she dotes on him and looks after their house all day. She’s subservient but underneath that she has very real needs. And that’s what gets revealed as the song goes on.”

Liz says, “That’s... yeah, that’s how I want it to be seen. Like she’s breaking out of her repression. She gets to be honest when she’s alone all day but wants her husband to know the real her. Do you think the audience will get all that?”

“That will require some acting. But yes, I think the message carries. You need to look like you are really having those thoughts in the moment. If it helps just imagine that there really is a special person watching you in the audience. Pretend you aren’t alone on stage when the songs ends but really about to embrace this perfect, gorgeous, kind, caring, and invisible husband of yours.”

“You want me to imagine some mysterious Mr.Right?”

You nod. “Sure. Try it at least once, see if it helps.”

Liz takes a drink of water while mulling over what you said.
