Chapter 58 by gorel29 gorel29

What's next?

The Shulks catch up to their allies and face their greatest enemies... Their allies.

Landing just outside the front entrance of the Avengers tower, the three Shulks found the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man's group there waiting for them. Finally gathering together, the rest of the gamma infused heroes looked up at the three She-Hulks with confusion, not willing to say what was on their minds when they found them bigger, stronger and showing softer middles then when they left.

"What's that smell?" Asked Spider-Man. "Smells like bad B.O... And shame."

Grimacing, Jen and the other two traded looks and shrugged. "P-probably nothing, let's get this over with, while there's still a city to save."

Making their way inside the tower from the ground level, the group of heroes were on alert as they passed by one scoured wall after another on their way to the elevator. The entire place looked like a bomb had gone off, a gamma bomb. The entire place had been devastated and reduced to rubble. But there was something lingering in everyone's minds as they finally got to the elevator and looked around.

"Where is everybody?" Asked Johnny, using his green flames to illuminate the dark and barren floor.

"I don't know..."

Indeed, there were no signs of activity of any kind. While the rest of the city was under siege by hundreds of hulks, the Avengers tower looked and felt completely abandoned. Tapping his stony finger against the 'up' button on the elevator, the Thing looked up at the elevator controls and found nothing happen.

"Eh, guess we're takin the stairs, probably for the best, this thing's got a weight limit."

"Stairs..." Huffed Carol, using her powers to levitate a foot off the ground. "Not a problem for me."

"Show off."

Climbing up the flights of stairs up to the top floor of the Avengers tower, the band of gamma powered being never found any opposition, no other hulks, or mutants were present on their way up. Just what had made the tower so untouchable to the madness and chaos going on outside? It was so unnerving that everyone were on edge the entire trip.

"I don't like this!" Hissed Spider-Man, scurrying up the walls along with Silk, Ghost Spider and the others. "Not even my spider-sense is going off."

"Maybe the Avengers left to find something to eat... OR hump." Whispered Mary Jane, looking up the flight of stairs and seeing nothing.

By the time they had gotten to the top floor, they still found no one. A deserted tower left in ruins by Jen's initial attack. Stepping over to a control pad in the rubble, Reed picked it up and frowned when he found a large bite mark in the electronic device, dropping it to his bare feet in annoyance.

"Any idea where the device storage might be?"

"I think its over in a wing with the rest of Tony's stuff." Answered Spider-Woman, walking her way over to where that was. But then she stopped, as did the rest of the Hulks as something came over them, a strange feeling they couldn't put their finger on.

"Guys... I think we should run!" She murmured, stiff as a board.

"Why?"

"Because I can't move!"

Horrified, everyone suddenly stopped what they were doing and marched in jilted steps to the center of the room, each of them looking on in shock as their bodies betrayed them and they stood together, then bent at the knee with their heads down.

"What's going on?"

"Can't... Can't move!"

Struggling to move, Jen found herself unable to budge an inch. No matter what she did, she couldn't move a single muscle. And then that's when she heard something. Clapping in the background, the group were **** to look up as they found the Leader enter the room, applauding the gaggle of gamma exposed heroes. Behind him, the Avengers lumbered in behind him.

"Well done, well done, if I had thought this would be so easy, I would have simply tied a turkey leg to a stick and placed it in front of a wooden box."

Moving to sit, Hawkeye and Tigra immediately created a throne for the tiny man the instant he sat back, crossing his leg over the other and leaning to the side in smug triumph.

"How?!" Gasped Jen, just as confused as the others. "You blew up with the rest of the plane out into the ocean!"

"Ah yes, a minor mistake, but not one that couldn't be rectified." The Leader explained, while the Black Panther, now a green furred anthro cat, came into view and poured the man a cup of tea. "SHIELD found the debris and I myself afloat in it, they brought me back for questioning and decided to send me here to be questioned by the Avengers. But I never doubted that my plan for a Gamma World wouldn't come to fruition, it just took a turn."

Taking a sip, the Leader grinned back at the Fantastic Four, Spiders and three She-Hulks powerless to move. "Honestly, did you REALLY think that while you were in my hands, I did not do anything to see my plans move forward? I injected you and Miss Ross with nano machines linked to this lovely mental band I created for myself." He explained, pointing to the simple gold tiara he wore over his oversized brow. "THIS allowed me to control the gamma clones I created and would have by extent control you, but then you just had to revert to human form and send us into the ocean. But thanks to your... Proliferation of genes to a few more HUNDRED subjects, you spread those machines to every person you turned into a Hulk."

Gasping, Jen turned to look over to Betty and Carol, the three horrified by the implications as they realized what the man was explaining.

"Everyone within proximity to this tiara is in my direct control, observe." With a flick of his hand in a gesture, Betty got up to her feet and approached the leader, turning to face the others with a look of horror. "Bending this one to my will was a simple matter..." Gesturing to trace his finger over his lip as if pulling a zipper, Betty Ross spoke for him.

"While in proximity for a period of time not only can I control your motor functions but even your mind and memories. And like molding clay I fabricated a story for our dear Red Shulk to draw on after I sent her off to find the rest of the Shulks who controlled this growing warband." Tilting her hip and resting a hand at her side with the same imperious smirk the Leader gave, Betty continued. "Honestly, she's easier to manipulate than you'd imagine."

"LET THEM GO!" Roared Jennifer, trying to move but unable to do so.

"Why ever for? In just a few minutes you will be mine and mine alone, and this will be the beginning of a gamma world I had sought for so long." Standing to his full height, the Leader raised his hands over his head and looked up to the ceiling. "Imagine it! A world without injury, disease or frailty. A world where everyone has the power to shape the world... All guided by my supreme will."

"All by my supreme will." Repeated the Avengers behind him.

"It's all just a matter of time."
